i'm going to avoid wii threads from this point on simply because of the upcoming bad jokes and the forthcoming nintendo fanboys whining about said bad jokes and hope nintendo makes it all go away by using another name that doesn't lend itself to jokes as much before release

The title is pretty much being universally lambasted, period.

And for those wondering, yes, the connotation of 'wee' being associated with urination (or male genitalia in general) does exist in the US.

A title like this really should have been run past people who actually speak English before going public with it. Something like 'Unitii' would have been a better title.

Least they could have done was stuck with Revolution. Unless this is just a bad joke (the GC was rumored to be called the "StarCube" before it was revealed from what I remember).

The Gamecube was codenamed "Dolphin" - which sounded much better than the release name. Ditto about Project Reality / Ultra 64 / Nintendo 64.

I'd be willing to bet this name doesn't make it to E3, much less the release of the thing. I'll still buy one, but there's no way I'm ever going to use that name (I think I'll just stick to "Revolution" for now.)

In my mind, it makes sense, since it's a combination of "We" and "ii", the latter of which means "good" in Japanese. Since next-gen systems seem to be focusing on people playing together more than this gen or generations past, it makes sense... to the Japanese.

It's completely lost in translation on all other parts of the world. They should've stuck with Revolution. It's the name that everyone knows, it's the name that stuck in people's minds when they revealed the Revmote, etc.

I'll still buy it, but if everyone's reaction to it is an indication, Nintendo better get off their asses and come up with a better name, at least for territories outside of Japan. It's been done before (Mega Drive/Genesis, PCE/TG-16, etc.), so it should certainly happen this time, too.

I don't think it's going to sell well in England and the USA. You need a cool name for your systems to sell. No. Really. Imagine the PS1 having a name like "Sublimation" or "Entity".

Revolution sounded so kickass. The system hasn't changed, but I am sure Nintendo just shot itself in the foot.
