question about DC shmups's music

Post by RoninBuddha »

as we all know, games like UnderDefeat (and i think BorderDown as well) has an option to change the music from Arrange to Arcade modes,...

what im wondering about is that when in "arcade" bgm mode, does it use the DC's AICA Audio chip (sound synth)? like the one on the Naomi boards, to produce the music, or does it also load from typical prerecorded redbook audio like the arrange music??

The music for these games seem to mostly be in ADX format, which seems to be compressed audio. I'd be interested to know if any render the music in realtime (Ikaruga maybe?).
Humans, think about what you have done

Ikaruga does indeed use the AICA chip instead of ADX.

Triggerheart Exelica is the only other game I know that (will) use(s) it.

Bangai-O, didn't that use redbook audio? (I thought it did, since you can listen to the music in your stereo from the game cd itself).

Since when?

There is a single playable audio track on the game that is the standard "This is not a soundtrack CD." message.

Which version do you have?

I have the PAL version of the game and you can listen to the entire soundtrack on it. I wonder, Is it likely they would change such a small feature for different regions...

Well, apparently, because my Japanese version doesn't have redbook audio.

Odd, I'm curious as to why they would do this. Maybe there are other DC games (which are yet to be discovered) that also have/don't have redbook audio, specific to certain regions.
