Your current shooting routine (if you have one)

Post by icycalm »

For the last few days I've pretty much stuck to a routine. I start out with 1 or 2 credits of Espgaluda, then I play Psyvariar Medium Unit for at least 2 hours, sometimes even 3, and then Homura for a bit. Just before I am about to call it a day I play one more credit of Espgaluda.

I've also been trying to get into Mushi, but it looks like shit on my new RGB TV (29"). I think when I am done with Psyvariar I'll try playing Mushi sitting about 2m away from the screen. It looks OK from a distance.

Under Defeat
-one life to 1-3
-die at 1-3 boss
-"fuck that shit"

Radirgy
-one life to 4
-lose most lives at 4th boss
-die stupidly at 5
-fail to score higher than 78m
-repeat play blow by blow without improving thanks to twitch error
-"fuck that shit"

Raiden Fighters Jet
-get to stage 50
-lose last life on last boss
-look at bomb counter
-cry
-"fuck that shit"

Airrade
-get to last stage/last boss
-fail to dodge fast bullet sequence
-fail to score higher than 669m
-"fuck that shit"

Under Defeat
-one life to 1-3
-die at 1-3 boss
-"fuck that shit"

as you can see this cycle repeats

Strikers 1945: each day spend 10-15 minutes playing, manage one good run (i.e. get to 1-4 without losing a ship), turn it off and get back to work. :(

I was stuck on this game for a while too. I would either use the p-38, spitfire, or the other one I can't remember.

It kind of paid off though. Somehow I got to 1-8 with the p-38. That was nuts for me.

Yeah, that's really good. I'm still trying to get to 1-6. If I had more time, I don't think it would be such a problem.

I play everyday when I can, and 1-2 hours on one game at the most and nothing else.

After the day is done and it's time to settle in... i fire up Viper Phase 1 and play through once, sometimes twice. But if i die anytime in the first two levels then i start over from the beginning. Pretty soon i think i'll graduate that tactic to level 3 - but most often i don't die until towards the end of the game anyway.

Once a week or so i'll play Rayforce or G-Darius to give myself a refresher. The rest of my gaming time is usually spent on one of the new Megaman games or Quake IV.

Currently:

Every day:

- two runs of Under Defeat (ca. 40 min)
- select areas of difficulty in Under Defeat in practice mode (ca. 20 min)

Although today I didn't play at all.

Also, last weekend I attended a shooting contest at somebody's private arcade (6 games, 3 runs per person, all day long), so I needed a shooter break for a couple of days. :?

Wow... work, family and other stuff greatly limit the time I can put in. I am envious of you sir :)

Well it's been about 1-2 hours a day for the past few days, but more often it's maybe 2-4 hours once or twice a week. It's mostly Nomltest and Parsec47 right now. Sadly (?), I haven't really wanted to play Gradius V or Shikigami no Shiro 2 for months.

Airrade isn't that difficult. Unless you're talking about AIR, which I keep hearing from everyone else that it's ridiculously hard.

As for me, Shoot the Bullet gets various mileage per day- sometimes I play for ten minutes, others for 1.5 hours.

i mean -AIR-, whose ranking system is entirely dependent on your max chain and if you get a 100 chain OH NO

the other two aren't worth playing, sort of like how raiden dx makes raiden 1 and 2 not worth playing

Well, I HAD been doing it as 2 hours of Mars Matrix while at work (where I keep my Dreamcast), then whatever I felt like playing at home, ESPGALUDA or Radirgy, and now Under Defeat usually (or whatever new Saturn shooter I haven't tried yet). I've been doing alot of reading lately though, and haven't been doing much solo gaming (only fighting games on Thursdays really).

Once I get back to playing Mars Matrix and 1cc it I'll be switching it out for Under Defeat at work, and then playing ESPGALUDA and maybe Battle Garegga or Perfect Cherry Blossom at home. I don't expect to 1cc galuda anytime soon. Ikaruga took me long enough. I may just 1cc Under Defeat or PCB before galuda (I've only put about 5 hours into Under Defeat and can already get to Chapter 4 on one credit).

Yeah, reading is beating out gaming in my free time for the time being.

They're still fun diversions. The third installment better be good since this technically should mark the end of the Airrade series if they're parodying the game sequence of the source material and it took them two years to develop it.

Now I have to pick up this game ASAP.

Back on track, I do sneak a few runs of The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil here and there as well.

At the moment I'm doing 9 one-credit shots at DonPachi a day (hence signature ;) ), and also 9 credits of DDP a day, because I want to improve my dire performance on these very fun games. Generally I also play at least 10 minutes of Nanostray a day, though score-attacking is about all that's left for me to do on that game now. Just bought Iridion II for my DS' GBA slot, so I have another option for shoot-'em-up practice during my commute (which is generally taken up by playing through LoZ: Minish Cap again).

I just recently picked up Ikaruga for the GC for a dirt cheap price, so will probably have to throw down some time on that too.

i usually play a bit each night but i have a large rotation of games that i dabble in and nothing that i concentrate on too much. although it's counter productive for skill, i find investing huge amounts of time into one shooter in one go just makes me sick of the game and i end up never wanting to go back to it. if i put some time into a game however and then let it breathe, i find i regularly improve in my sabbatical and i can see new patterns etc.

currently i'm rotating between gradius v, ikaruga, fire shark, shienryu explosion and psyvariar.

shmups are suffering a bit at the mo however as i've picked up makai kingdom and leveling is as addictive as crack
Number of 1cc's : 5
Now playing: Gunbird

When I play I do about 5 hours a week. I tend to just rotate through the shooters I have that I enjoy. Last week it was Donpachi. Before that was Raji.

I don't play shooters necessarily to 1cc them or get a high score...to me, they're fun diversions and quite addicting. There are many non-shmup games I enjoy, and I don't play them as much as I should either. And I only play games after work, errands, and social obligations are taken care of.

So all in all, I play maybe 4 hrs. a week during good weeks, and none at all during bad ones. On average it's about 1 hr. a week.

I don't play nearly as much as I'd like to. I need to give my SNES shmup collection more attention. I will be receiving Under Defeat within a few weeks, so that should jump start things.

A lot of it has to do with some new current-gen non-shmups that I've been playing. Also, as far as imports go, I still have a modded-PS1, but am thinking about waiting to see if the PS3 will indeed be region-free, and if so, if that will extend back to PS1 and PS2 games, before buying anymore imports. If not, then I'll probably get a JPS2.

And then there's the Revolution-it seems like we're going to get a lot more 3rd-party support then previously thought, so I feel silly about spending money on ANY SNES games, at the moment.

Perhaps I'm just waiting on too many things, and just need to get shmupping.
