Viewpoint supports 2-player simultaneous play!!

Post by Bydobasher »

Okay, I'm sure some of you know that already, but I never did until tonight. I always thought it was just a one-player game. I love to play video games with friends; this makes Viewpoint even better! :)

Viewpoint was always 2 player on mvs Arcade and 1 player on AES home NeoGeo.

I thought it was only 2 player with the use of the debug dips? Not specifically an MVS thing, I have played MVS Viewpoint with the 2 player alternating mode before.

I don't know anything about the Home version, but in the MVS test menu you can set the game to 2P alternating or 2P simultaneous.

I could be wrong since I no longer have my MVS copy, but I believe a side effect of using 2P simultaneous is that 1P gameplay becomes instant respawn instead of checkpoint respawn.

I seem to recall having played 2-player alternating way back when the NeoGeo was new as well; I think that's where I got the impression that there was no simultaneous mode.

Yes, that's precisely part of its appeal. :) It gives the game an entirely different feel -- and makes it possible to simply blast your way unthinkingly to the end, which I enjoy doing with a buddy.

I really like it when a "checkpoint" style game gives you this option. Last Resort and the Japanese version of R-Type Leo offer something similar.

Tatsujin 2 offers that option as well... it's the only way I could get through the game at all.

Yeah, that's a tough one. I did make it through on my own, once. :)

If you have the Unibios or install one, you can activate this mode.

Hmmm, I too was not aware of that. I had played the home port way back, and there was no 2 Player option!
even more respect to viewpoint.

Alternate mode is a lot harder than Simultaneous due to the fact that when a player dies they don't have to restart back at the way point. Saying that though the annoying thing about playing Viewpoint two player simultaneous is that sometimes it's really annoying when your friend goes one way and you are going another and the screen does not scroll due to this and one of you end up dying, very annoying indeed!

Saying that I own the MVS verson and I knew of this mode straight away because I always go to the bios screen when first play a MVS game for the first time to make sure it's on defualt settings and discovered it that way.

It's better that way IMO. Checkpoints are a pain, especially when you're at the 4th boss. Having this son of a bitch come back good as new isn't fun.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

I put Viewpoint on my top 25 list in the end. I don't know if it will stay on there in the next few years to come, but I find it really enjoyable and innovative.

Yeah, I do really like the creativity in environmental interaction.

Unfortunately I sort of feel like I'm cheating when I turn off the checkpoints. Which sucks because the game is so felchin' hard even without the checkpoints...

You can also use the dipswitches to change whether you would rather re-spawn straight away or restart from a checkpoint in single player mode.

I actually think checkpoint for 1` player and respawn instantly for two player is a good way to handle things.
