Any arcades in Portland Oregon?

Post by professor ganson »

I'll be downtown at one of the major hotels, can't remember which one atm. Anything I should check out while I'm there? Game stores, music stores, but especially arcades?

if you're downtown and you enjoy classic games/pinball, Ground Kontrol is well worth a visit. Only other arcade I know of that's close to downtown is Tilt at Lloyd Center Mall, which is ok if you're into fighting games.

Wow, thanks much!!! That arcade seems to have some of my favorite games of all time: Battle Garegga, Raiden II, and Strikers 1945. Crap, I don't think I'll have much time for my conference now.

@magnum opus: I'd heard about Powell's. Thanks for reminding me--- I must go there as well.

Don't forget Powell's Technical book store. About the size of your average B&N, filled with nothing but nerd books.

Yeah, Ground Kontrol is awesome. Unfortunately their Strikers and Garegga are on an emu cab, but Raiden 2 is an original cab. They have some other sweet classics though. The best thing is their pinball tables -- 5 tables including some great ones like Black Knight 2000 and Addams Family. If you go there make sure you check out the shop around the corner (can't remember the name) that sells Japanese toys and has a cool art gallery.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.

actually there's more than 5 pinball tables ;) but hey, Addams Family and Black Knight 2000 are two of the best so yeah.

I knew something was up with those multi-game cabinets when I played Bust-a-Move Again on one of them and it played the incorrect music... (for a long time the sound roms for Bust-a-Move Again were never dumped, it just borrowed the Puzzle Bobble 2 sound roms in MAME and played the wrong music. This was fixed a couple versions ago.)
