Semi-pro / amateur platforms to collaborate on fan games?

Post by WitnessOfTheFall »

Hi everyone,

Do you know of any semi-professional or amateur platforms or communities where people offer their expertise (especially in art design, level design,...) for fan games based on their favorite titles?

The idea wouldn’t be fully unpaid work, but rather low-cost collaborations — passion projects with small budgets, not commercial productions, but still with some form of recognition or modest compensation.

Up until now, the sprite packs I bought on itch.io have done the job, but I’m currently lacking sprites and backgrounds in a consistent retro 16-bit style to build the remaining levels of my game.
I’m especially looking for visuals in the same vein as the work of Ansimuz (https://ansimuz.itch.io/).

I’m thinking of people who genuinely love a specific license and would be motivated to contribute to a serious fan project, without necessarily aiming for a professional or commercial scope.

If you have any experience with this, or know platforms, Discord servers, forums, or even general advice on how to find this kind of profile, I’d really appreciate it 🙂

Thanks in advance!
