Sektori (Steam / Switch 2 / PS5 / Xbox)
Sektori is now out, for full disclosure it's made by my friend/old workmate.
However, the comments I am hearing is that this is super addictive.
Kimmo is a game industry veteran of few decades (we used to both work at Housemarque decades ago) so I have every reason to believe he knows what he is doing.
To be fully transparent, I haven't tried it yet. I am super busy developing my own game after work, and if this is as addictive as people are saying it is, I fear it may screw up my schedules..!
If you like twinstick shooters give it a go.

Fantastic game. Really highly recommended.
The game's creator posted this glimpse into their work:

Super interesting to someone like me, who knows next to nothing about game development.

Re: Sektori (Steam / PS5 / Xbox)
Thanks for making a thread about it.
The developer has been posting on the "Development" section of the forum, but I get the impression a lot of people don't check it.
For those interested, do check his posts:
viewtopic.php?p=1589109
I hope he doesn't mind me "stealing" a couple of screenshots he posted, to get people's attention.

---
As for the game, I bought a copy earlier today on Steam. I only played it for a few minutes, but early impressions are very positive.
The game is like Geometry Wars, on crack, with ever changing elements, and a constant avalanche of enemies and visual/audio elements. The hard hitting soundtrack complements the gameplay perfectly.
For fans of twin-stick shooters, there's a lot to like here.
I really recommend that anyone reading this checks out the trailer, to get an idea of how the game is in motion. It's a bit of a sensory overload, in a good way:

Re: Sektori (Steam / PS5 / Xbox)
I was prepared to dismiss it before I opened the link (a somewhat default position as jaded old gamer that needs the hard shit to not doze off within 5 minutes) but I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw, so I'll be grabbing it.
I am a huge twin stick shooter fan and I'm always sad that we don't get more/better ones since I think the genre has a ton to offer. One of the commenters mentioned it gave off Housemarque vibes and I somewhat agree based on initial impression, and if it turns out to be Housemaruqe-esque that would be a HUGE compliment since Nex Machina (and Returnal, too, even if it's a different genre) is an excellent game, and tbh is probably the best twin stick shooter ever made.
Thanks for sharing!

Hey I already bought the game, you don't need to convince me any more! :^)
But yea, played it for like 30 minutes, seems amazing. Twin stick shooter with Gradius power up bar? Jesus christ, it's like the game was made for me specifically.

Re: Sektori (Steam / PS5 / Xbox)
The Steam port of Sektori was made available to purchase at 12:00am PST on the Steam Shop portal today, 11/18/2025, with a cool 10% off discount if you buy both the Sektori game & OST music Soundtrack for a mere $17.98 usd -- I bought them both as a bundled set. It's a 2.73gb digital d/l in it's entirety.
----------
It truly shines if played with a screen projector type of setup for that "larger than life" maximum visual impact/punch. I'm using an NEC M323X Texas Instruments DLP screen projector with a docked Steam Deck setup -- the maximum screen setting is at 1024 x 768 (4:3 mode) but will accept up to 1920 x 1080 (16:9 mode) format if it needed be. Quite impressive nevertheless.
----------
Sektori has on-line leaderboard support from the get-go.

Nice to see also that many people here seem to enjoy it. I really want to try it out too.. I know that Kimmo worked very hard on it.

It looks like Minter with a smidgen of slickness. I'm down
Unfortunately, my geforce 1030 isn't...
I'll guess when I hook-up my (se)xbox, I'll give it it go. This actually may give me a reason to unpack and hook up my (se)xbox (I really haven't had any other)
Edit: Okay, this thing is pretty awesome. Just when I finally thought I achieved 'giant ball of destruction', I got to the boss

Thanks everyone for playing (I'm the dev). It's scary to read comments over here as I doubt I could slip any garbage past this crowd, so I'm happy to read some positive comments.
It's been a long road to get here, but I hope it has some legs.

Re: Sektori (Steam / PS5 / Xbox)
Grats on the release! I'm really enjoying it so far.
I particularly liked that there seems to be score incentives to intentionally do the bosses with 0 shield (just from score screen computation), in addition to other incentives to go shieldless from some of the evolve options (there's one that your main shot shoots extra bullets if you have no shield, and maybe some others that I can't remember or haven't seen yet). Really cool stuff, and I plan on sinkin plenty more time into it, so I'm grateful!

Re: Sektori (Steam / PS5 / Xbox)
I've noticed that with the NEC M323X screen projector setup, the ability to play Sektori in 4:3 aspect ratio mode (where it truly shines), it's easier to see the yellow bits to collect 'em -- gets really frantic as the environment grows larger with more enemies added to "home in on you" leading to some "hair-raising" encounters/too close for comfort type of situations -- seems like you can't catch your breath even for just a few seconds type of deal -- which is good imho (as you don't want the player to feel complacent/bored at times).
----------
For gimblll,
Have you thought about releasing Sektori as an exclusive arcade game/game center type of gaming experience with the Exa-Arcadia arcade platform? Perphaps offer an exclusive tate option not found on the Steam & console ports to further differentiate it -- something different for a change of pace.

Re: Sektori (Steam / PS5 / Xbox)
I will amend my original post above and state that this thing just straight rips.
This may sound odd, but it's a game where the player is supposed to die with frequency -- and after enduring WAY too many games that come at you with the whole "we're going to kill you more than any bloodsoulz on the planet", only to have the player realize the real torture comes not from death, but having to endure the artful cut-scenes, three loading screens, and two menus that accompany each death -- I REALLY appreciate that this game requires two quick button presses to immediately get back to the action. Furthermore, I feel the quickness and ease with which the player can try again encourages the player to -- y'know -- try again.
I know that seems like a minuscule compliment, but seeing how so many (most?) games do the total opposite of this, it's actually a HUGE complement. It's downright refreshing.

I have to admit I wasn't even familiar with Exa-Arcadia, looks really cool! Something to investigate in the future perhaps.PC Engine Fan X! wrote: ↑Wed Nov 19, 2025 11:14 pmHave you thought about releasing Sektori as an exclusive arcade game/game center type of gaming experience with the Exa-Arcadia arcade platform? Yeah, I feel the same. It's important to me that once you die you can rage-tap a button to get back in. It could be even faster with a quick restart button, but I felt that was good enough to not be painful.m.sniffles.esq wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 12:05 amI REALLY appreciate that this game requires two quick button presses to immediately get back to the action. It got a 90/91 on Metacritic, wow, I've never seen a shmup get that high a rating
Incidentally, it was also shared by Housemarque.

It's true - a positive reaction here really is near impossible - I'm glad everyone seems to enjoy it.
One of the things I always dreamt of while playing hundreds of hours of Geometry Wars was the implementation of a Gradius-style power-up system...
So thanks!

Thanks everyone. I'm just trying to let it sink that people seem to really actually truly like the game... I've been doing this 25+ years and that doesn't really happen that often.

Bought on PS5, had all of two games... went and bought it on Steam, too.
It's an absolute banger, sunshine.
When's the sequel?
Try to not let it take another 25 years... I won't last that long - cheers!

Anyone playing this on Steam Deck? I'm up in the air about whether to get it for the Deck or PS5. How's the performance on Deck?

Re: Sektori (Steam / PS5 / Xbox)
I'm reading so many good things in this thread, love the visual overload, intense action, and Geo Wars was the game that brought me to the shmup genre. So Sektori has big appeal to me.
However I play on a single not-so-new-gen game console and have to be this guy again, all apologies in advance but : Switch/Switch 2 port ?

Deck OLED version seems legit.
Runs at 90 with a tdp of 7 for me. Not really pushed it too far, so dunno if that maybe needs to go up to an 8 on further runs.
I would say though, that I feel this really needs a big screen: there's too much going on for these old eyes on a small one. Still, you can't go wrong with either this or the PS5 version.

Re: Sektori (Steam / PS5 / Xbox)
This NEC M323X screen projector will display Sektori in both 4:3 & 16:9 aspect ratios making it easier to see & gather the yellow bits during a heated gaming session: https://www.ebay.com/itm/395803651782?_ ... R_zMya3VZg It works like a charm with a docked Steam Deck setup indeed. The Texas Instruments DLP technology used in the above listed screen projector is absolutely incredible for playing games and watching streaming movies with an Amazon Fire Stick -- especially if you select the "Presentation" picture format with colors that practically "pop" on-screen.Stevas wrote: ↑Sat Nov 22, 2025 1:45 am Deck OLED version seems legit.

Same, there is nothing resembling Geometry Wars in the Switch library that's on this level.guigui wrote: ↑Sat Nov 22, 2025 1:32 am I'm reading so many good things in this thread, love the visual overload, intense action, and Geo Wars was the game that brought me to the shmup genre. I enjoyed Devastator quite a lot. Made by Radian Games. It's an arena style twin stick shooter with beefed up vector graphics. It's about £7. It's not on the same level as Sektori, Geometry Wars etc but it's worth playing.

Just checked the Switch version out on YouTube and the framerate is really poor. Bounces around 40-50fps. I wouldn't really recommend this as 60fps locked should be minimum for these games. I guess running it on a Switch 2 might help though.

Re: Sektori (Steam / PS5 / Xbox)
Sektori is finally out on the Xbox Microsoft Marketplace portal for a mere MSRP of $14.99 usd and is a 3.09gb sized digital d/l. The Xbox Series S/X port of Sektori has online leaderboard support from the "get-go." The usual silky-smooth arcade-spec 60fps framerate is present and consistent with this particular Xbox Series S/X port of Sektori indeed.
----------
A minimum of a 55" 4K TV or equivalent gaming monitor is necessary for maximum visual impact/punch -- don't settle for a half-assed "less-than-that" minimum spec sized TV/gaming monitor setup -- your eyes will thank you in going with the larger screen "real estate" space-wise. Of course with the notion of that the bigger the screen is, the more further back the gamer has to sit back to properly see everything without moving his or her head (in ideal conditions).
----------
The lower-spec powered Xbox Series S console handles Sektori with absolutely no problems whatsoever (aside from it's bigger brother of the more powerful Xbox Series X console running it flawlessly as well).

Re: Sektori (Steam / PS5 / Xbox)
Picked up the game on Steam, it runs great on a base Steam Deck as well, rock solid 60fps at all times. And what a banger of a game! I have hand cramps and blurred vision after playing for like 5 hours straight, lol. Still have only managed to get to level 5 in campaign mode so I think I'll be sticking with this one for quite some time. It takes a minute for the design language of the game to click but once it does it's straight up flow state from start to finish.
So far I've been focusing mainly on missles and trying to get the powerups that make powering up easier—the one that makes tokens gravitate towards you is a game changer and the one that makes picking up yellow bits easier makes it even more effective. What strategies are you all using?
Also, how does the strike combo mechanic work? I get doing the combo with the second ship, but is it possible to do it with the default ship? Just strike bonus pads and keep going?
