The weirdness of my CRT TVs

Post by atohmdiy »

Hello,

I experience some oddity with my CRT TVs, i thought it would we a good idea to ask here, maybe some people here with knowledge can find an explanation.
To explain shortly, i currently have 3 CRT :
2x Thomson 33" (icc17)
1x Sony kv-e3431d that i recently picked in a travel to germany.
I did a complete recap of all these tv.

My setup :
I only use my Mister as a source. As output i only used the direct video mode with an hd fury 3 dac.
It then goes through an Extron VGA matrix switcher.

When i get the E34 i try it with the analog vga output of my ironclad mister motherboard, i had a weird issue. Image was slightly jumping horizontally. After investigations I found the "force RGB" option in the service menu correct the issue.
Then when i integrate my e34 in my setup, i experience a problem : it goes out of sync often. I tried an Extron RGB that seems to correct the issue. Another problem, irem m92/m107 core now show full black screen. There could be more core as i didn't test a lot of them.
I found that when i use the analog output instead of direct video, it solve the issue, i have a stable image and irem cores are working.

But it's my thomson that are now not working as i wanted... After some experiments, i can summarize all that :

Mister DV HD FURY => Extron VGA Switcher => E34 = Random Out of Sync
Mister DV HD FURY => Extron RGB => Extron VGA Switcher => E34 = Working but IREM M92/107 shows black screen
Mister Analog Out => Extron VGA Switcher => E34 = Works fine
Mister DV HD FURY => Extron VGA Switcher => Thomson 33' = Works fine
Mister DV HD FURY => Extron RGB => Extron VGA Switcher => Thomson 33" = Black Screen
Mister Analog Out => Extron VGA Switcher => Thomson 33" = Black Screen
Mister Analog Out => Thomson 33" = Works fine
Mister Analog Out => Extron RGB => Extron VGA Switcher => Thomson 33" = Black Screen

When i say black screen, i can see a very faint image in a very dark gray. Same for the out of sync of my E34, the image is crush in 16/9 by the tv but i can barely see a very dark mister output.

All this is really weird...

The Extron vga switcher is suppose to amplify the sync to 5v, but do not touch the signal by itself. It's strange the extron vga is working with the hd fury 3 but not with the analog out, especially that a direct connection of the the analog out to the thomson is working fine.

I tried to play a little with the sog switch and vga_sog option in the mister.ini, without success.

For the record I also found that in this configuration :
Mister DV HD FURY => Extron RGB => Extron VGA Switcher => E34
The image in 480i is butchered (240p is ok however) if you set the composite sync in mister ini. The extron RGB expect a HV sync as input.
