Bonded everything on Gateway PMV1448NI

Post by Hoagtech »

I am trying to remove all components and recap my 13" SVGA monitor that is going into a Dreamcast Kiosk for 480p Usage.

This particular monitor has been hell as every connection connection is coated in one of three types of adhesive: Rubber Cement, Green Hard glue and whatever this rock hard yellow paste around the base of each capacitor.

I have my kit coming from Digikey and I would love some advice on the best method to tackle removal. I have an FR-301 ready for the component removal but I'm worried I'm going to scrape a trace If use my pen knife to remove this glue.

Any ideas from someone who has been where I'm at?

They also bonded the SCREEN and FOCUS knobs on the flyback and heavily bonded the yoke itself. I don't see the yoke being a problem as its sharp and converged but I would love to adjust my screen voltage when I calibrate.

Use a soldering iron with tip of adequate size to melt the glue while wiggling and pulling the cap (after desoldering the leads).

I'll try that. I foresee myself exploding a couple capacitors doing so. Ill use my crappiest Hakko tip.
