Official "This auction is scan-da-lous!"-thread

Post by Zweihander »

Link

I was about to pounce on it. $160 for Radiant Silvergun, Judgement Silversword, AND a freebie wine-red SwanCrystal? but lo and behold, if you read the text, you will wind that RSG is not for sale in this auction, even though it is pictured and mentioned in the HEADLINE. This may be a legal auction, but barely... very misleading bullshit we got goin' on here. Everyone, if you happen to enter this auction, be aware that you are only buying Judgement Silversword and a SwanCrystal, and that this motherfucker is more than likely making quite a hefty profit with it.

It's possibly a poor choice of words. Here's the auction text:

You are looking at Judgement Silversword -Rebirth Edition- for the Wonderswan Crystal (or Color).
A Wonderswan Color or Crystal is required to play this game.
There was only 500 copies ever printed of the Judgement Silversword -Rebirth Edition-.
Use Buy It Now, and I will throw in a Wonderswan Crystal System for No Charge.
The System Color is Violet or Wine Red!

When Bandai held a Wonder Witch National Programming Contest in Japan,
every amatur programmer purchased this Wonder Witch (a programming device) to create their own original game.
Every year, the Judges at Bandai decided on a winner and printed very limited production run
for the public to purchase only available throught Online Stores.
the first winner of the WWGP2001 contest was Judgement Silversword.
this game was definately inspired by Radiant Silvergun.
Just by reading the name, you would guess that.

It is sold for over 200 dollars in Japan.

for game footage, download the movies listed on the below homepage.
http://members2.jcom.home.ne.jp/jss2/dl.htm
it is in Japanese, but easy to figure out what to click!

Thanks for looking. I have also posted Radiant Silvergun, so please don't forget to check my other games.

And there isn't a separate RS auction...I'd message the seller, perhaps they're on the up and up.

I'm thinking at this point it would be best to keep all scandalous auction complaints to one thread. We're having about a scandal a day and I doubt we need a thread that often.

An excellent idea. Let it be this thread, since it has a fitting title already. I'm just gonna add the "Official" part in there.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Yeah, but still... including a pic of the legendary RSG, and including its name in the headline, is pretty disgusting unless he's actually selling it in this particular auction. Also, note the starting price-- Buy It Now is pretty much the only auction, and is-- wouldn't ya know it-- the recommended networth of RSG, $160! O.O

That's just the thing, there is no separate auction, though I'd agree the way it's worded indicates there is one...just message him and ask if it's included.

Using the phrase "Radiant Silvergun" in this auction title is actually against the Item Description Policy/rule of eBay. :o

The rule states that if you are to say your goods is look like, similar to another goods of the same kind. You can only states that in your auction descreation, and never be allowed to put that in your Acution Title or sub-title.

This is not a valid auction, you could report it to eBay. :x

************************************

But according to my experiance, a lot of seller actually doing this to try to rise the hit rate of their listing. And I had complained to eBay of similar cases several times in the past, but eBay rarely take action.

eBay don't stop people selling bootlegs, why would you expact they to take action in this case?

People do that all the time though, tack stuff to the end to get more hits. I don't know how many auctions i've looked up for CDs that had affiliated or similar sounding bands names added to the title to catch people who wouldn't normally look up that particular band ex "SUNN0))) Grim Robe Demos CD boris khanate grief". It makes clear the item is a SUNN CD even if it has extra names tagged on the end. I think thats what this seller did. Personally, I don't see it as a big deal, maybe because I've bought so many items that did the same thing and spot it as such.
Feedback will set you free.

There was a separate auction for his RSG, it sold for $160 (very quickly via buy-it-now). Check the completed listings. He listed both at the same time and apparently was too lazy to take two separate pics so therein lies the confusion. But his item description makes it clear about what you're getting. If people can't read then they shouldn't use ebay.

So is Radiant Silvergun actually for sale in this actuion as well?

REPLY - I used the same picture to post two products.
The Radiant Silvergun that was posted separately sold in two days. Thanks for your inquiry. purix99

I still call bullshit.

This isn't like the incident in which someone bought a console's box rather than the item itself, in which the buyer was too goddamn stupid to read everything first. I, myself, had to read this auction a second time to grasp the concept of "oh, he's NOT selling RSG in this auction... to hell with it then." Even if it's a result of laziness, if you're selling something this goddamn expensive, YOU WILL take two separate pictures AND NOT cause confusion with HEADLINES.

This is, very clearly, a bullshit auction, and it makes me wish there was a real-time message board for each auction to post something along the lines of "Hey people, this auction is some scandalous bullshit. Just sayin'." Private-only messaging prevents auctions like this, as well as auctions for bootleg movies, games, and soundtracks, to be noticed by the masses. Sadly, because of this, dozens upon dozens (hundreds, maybe?) of bootleg items are sold daily on ebay, all because no one will rat them out or make it public-- as well as misleading auctions such as this.

This auction, while not scandalous, is getting pretty out of control:

http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n34526944

Espg posters are very common, so I would value them at $50.

The DOJ/Mushi posters aren't that rare either, so maybe they are worth $100 each.

The DOJ Black Label poster is harder to find, but is it worth $400? I think the poster also has thumbtack holes as well.

I also predict this auction breaks the $1000 mark.......

Nope, those are questions asked to the seller that the seller can make public on his/her auction.

Darn... As long as the privacy or publicity of the messaging is manipulated by the seller alone, eBay will never change for the better...

Personally I kind of like auctions that have extra stuff tacked onto the end of the title. My searches give me some unexpected hits that I wouldn't have found otherwise, and sometimes they turn out to be auctions for some good stuff too.

Stuff like this shouldn't be such a big deal if you're a vigilant buyer and read the descriptions carefully, as I know you have done. Any remaining ambiguities can and should be resolved by asking the seller your questions. I don't see what the big stink is about.

I figured it would go well over 80,000 yen.

None of them go for under 10,000 (ESPGaluda included), nor have any showed up for quite some time. THe Black Label is what's jacking it up... it would clear 30,000 on it's own, easily. The flyer went for 15,000 yen just some 2 weeks ago.

I think that most of those came from one seller (Buy-Rite) anyway.

Okay, so this auction ain't scandalous in the slightest. Because it's my auction. It was a KoF97 that sold for ten bucks. Five dollars shipping via priority mail. It is expressed very clearly in the auction that I only ship Tuesdays and Fridays. It sold and was paid for by paypal "eCheck" at 7:44pm Saturday night. Party time. Sunday is a day of rest as specified by the lord. So when I checked me emails on Monday morning I found these four gems:

Sunday March 5th 11:48am
"hi, i ordered this item yesterday. it appears that you haven't claimed my payment yet. i don't want to have to wait until friday for you to ship it considering the fact that i did buy the item over the weekend. you said that if i send payment friday, it will be shipped out tuesday. well the weekend is the same thing. because even if you don't do business on weekends, monday is still a business day. this means that it still gives you a day to prepare for its shipment on tuesday. so please claim my payment right away and ship my item out on tuesday. i don't mean to sound rude, but its just that usually when i buy something my payment is claimed right away. and this one guy waited a week until he finally decided to claim my payment. please don't do this. it just worried me that the same kind of thing might happen again. i enjoy doing business when i get fast transactions and fast shipments. if you ship my item out on tuesday, there's a good chance i'll buy from you again. please respond"

Sunday March 5th 1:46pm
"to add to what was said before, for some stupid reason it is saying that my payment might not be cleared until the 8th of march. now i don't know what that means. but what i do know is that you can clear it sooner than that. i would really hate to have to wait an extra 3 days just to have my package shipped. please clear my payment right away and ship my item tuesday. i like to be a good customer, but i need good service. please respond to this."

Monday March 6th 9:14am
"hi, i sent an e-mail yesterday about my purchase. i don't know why ebay isn't letting it be cleared yet. but i know i did pay it and it's up to you guys to clear it. now i do not want to wait until friday for my item to be shipped. i want it shipped on tuesday considering i ordered it saturday night. now send me an e-mail saying that you are going to ship it out tuesday or i will have to complain that i am not getting good service. this time i want a response to my message or i will also complain about not getting responses. and don't think i won't, because i have complained in the past. my item was ordered on saturday, which means that it should still qualify for a tuesday shipment. as i said respond to this or i am going to make a complaint."

Monday March 6th 9:29am
"sorry for the last message. i did come on a little strong. i just didn't want to have to wait an extra 3 days for no reason. please do what you can. thanks"

Anyway, I replied after that fourth one without drama because I'm nice and I realize that some people need a great deal of handholding when it comes to a ten dollar purchase. Just wanted to let you guys that don't sell things see the kind of neuroses sellers have to put up with fairly regularly. Mostly though, it just struck me funny :)

Seriously wrong to mislead people, but then again, people need to read descriptions. :(
