Modding a TEAC CT-F5151 to add component input

Post by SkinnyFiend »

Hey all,
I picked up a TEAC CT-F5151 from the roadside recently. It's got 2 composite inputs but I'd like to use a Wii with component cables on it. I couldn't find the original remote with it and the power plug had either been snipped by a scrapper looking for low grade copper or just an accident. I've already replaced the power cable and verified that it works.

I've downloaded the User and Services manuals, as well as an Application Note for the Jungle chip (TMPA8821). The schematic in the TV's service manual indicates that some models of this TV come with a component input from the factory. My unit is just missing a resistor and cap on the Cr and Cb inputs (and the RCA jacks in the back). I've highlighted the Y (orange), Cb (blue), and Cr (green) lines in the schematic and the missing components in red boxes in the image below. I've also highlighted a pin that reads Y/C 5v, could that be some S-Video/Component enable pin?

Direct link if that image doesn't work.

So, my question is; If I can add those components and pass a component signal to these pins on the Jungle chip is it likely that component will just work? I can't see anything in the TMPA8821 App Note that mentions YUV being enabled or not, nor can I see any pins that look like they enable or disable component.

Sorry, I'm not sure how to upload a copy of the service manual to attach it so here is a link to it on ManualsLib.

And here is the TMPA8821 Application Note from Datasheet4u.

Thanks in advance for any help! Please let me know if I've got anything wrong or missed something as well.

Cheers,

I found this in the Service Manual, one of the service menu configs. Looks like I just need to add in the missing components and enable YUV in the service menu.

Is there a Teac CRT IR encoder library for arduino or something, or do the universal remotes work okay?

You'll likely need a genuine Teac remote (or a remote with the codes copied from it) to enter service menu.

After enabling YUV in service it is just a matter of filling in the blanks on the chassis to match the schematic.

Can also do S-Video.

Oh wow, I finally get a reply so its not just me talking to myself and its the MarkOZLAD. I read your post on adding S-Video to a set which got me onto this.

I found what seemed to be the only original remote for the set available on the internet and bought it. I have everything ready to go, just need to find time around work and parenting. I'll make a detailed post once I finish with all the details. Seems to be a nicely customisable set except for no RGB.
