FS: 4 Dotronix DSC25V CRT Screens

Post by entmaobao »

Hello,

Sorry if this is not the right board, please direct me to where if not. First time posting here.

I've bounced around the last few days from a few sites and was referred over here.

I purchased a flip property with a lot of vintage electronics and stuff in it from a hoarder and inside it are these four old (1997) 25" screens

I don't know really anything about them besides some cursory google searches and what Reddit and some other sites has filled me in on.

I plan on testing them in the morning and moving them into storage out of the house.

I have no idea what these are worth, I will consider any offer. I am located in Las Vegas, NV.

At the very least I hope these can help out someone looking for this kind of hardware.

For entmaobao,

What kind of inputs are included on the backside of your four 25" CRT monitors? Are they VGA, CGA or even EGA inputs? If they're low-res 15.7kHz CRT monitors, they'd be perfect for playing arcade games on them easily (given the 25" screen size factor) -- then it'd be a matter of making a custom cable to use with a supergun hooked up to it (assuming if the pinout of the monitor's input is found).

It seems that those featured 25" Dotronix monitors have 500 lines of resolution and seem to be, indeed, low-res 15.7kHz monitors (after glossing over the PDF of the 25" Dotronix manual online). It seems on one backside of a 25" monitor, it looks like a possible VGA or EGA input interface at the very bottom portion along with a power switch, a power socket to hook up a power cord and possibly what looks like a yellow-colored RCA composite video input (or a 3/8" stereo input jack) at the very top portion.

Seems like a remote is necessary to change the monitor's screen parameters though -- are remotes supplied with the 25" monitors (for completeness)?

This is what I can get for close shot of the port. I think they may be VGA. I do not have any remotes though. At least that I can find, this house is an absolute disaster.

After looking more closely at your provided picture, it looks like a DB-9 interface for what could possibly be an EGA (or rather a low-res 15.7kHz input interface) -- then it'd be a matter of determining the pinout by "trial and error" to be able to use it/determine if the CRT monitor works or not.

For entmaobao,

Did you get a chance to test out all four monitors and do they power-on/display an image?

----------

Wow, so those four 25" CRT-based monitors are perfect for using with a supergun/arcade jamma pcb setup, then it'd be a matter of making a custom DB-9-based RGB input cable and you're all set. The monitors have "auto-degaussing" upon being turned on -- which is quite handy to have. Also, the 25" monitors don't come with a remote, it's only with the 27" variant monitors that can use a remote -- go figure.

This is looking to be quite an exciting discovery as there aren't any 25" sized Dotronix monitors listed for sale as of right now. Of course, it's a matter of how much will it cost to ship within the USA for starters as the overall weight of a 25" monitor weighs 87 pounds to begin with -- they'd have to be shipped by Ground Freight shipping method via UPS or Fedex (or perhaps by Yellow Freight assuming that they're still around). Does DHL even ship by Ground Freight method as well?

Hmmm.....
