New Switch danmaku stg on Smile Basic 4 app -- Gaswitch 2

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

On the Smile Basic 4 app for the Switch, there's a new release of Gaswitch 2 that's a tribute/nods towards Namco's Galaga/Galaplus/Galaga '88 classic 1980s stgs but updated with new game play and game mechanics to spice it up to new lofty heights. GS2 is a Galaga inspired danmaku homebrew stg (using the Smile Basic 4 gaming engine) (with autofire as "standard default" from the start of a serious session) and including power-ups such as:

----------
Dual (doubles your firepower with unlimited usage until you grab another different power-up or die mid-stage -- whichever comes first)

Laser (changes your default firepower to a Laser type for a limited time)

Force (endows your fightercraft with a forcefield for a limited time -- comes in quite handy during the higher stages with plenty of enemies and bullets on-screen)

Speed (increases your overall speed of your fightercraft -- can upgraded to higher levels but only with the current fightercraft in play -- once you die, overall speed movement defaults to standard speed)
----------

On the higher stages, enemies move hyper-fast! GS2 runs at an arcade-spec 60fps framerate overall, performance-wise. A grand total of 20 stages awaits you -- can you get the highest score and beat it?

It has that addictive factor of "just more one try/credit" retro arcade stg vibe that really draws/entices you in to try your best to 1LC (or at least 1CC it) -- the gameplay & game mechanics have honed to 100% perfection (which is quite a rarity/achievement as it is within the Smile Basic 4 homebrew development community).

No option is available to play GS2 in tate but it'd be a nice option to have implemented in a future updated revision indeed. A special message is shown if you manage to finish the final stage. There's a "Top 5" high score screen to enter up to six initials maximum if you score high enough. It'd be awesome to play GS2 on a candy cab setup or released as a dedicated "standalone" arcade jamma pcb would be even better (an Exa-Arcadia release of GS2 would be ace).
