Sigma 9000TB adapter for all 8 buttons

Post by shmupsrocks »

I have this controller and it's great but I use it with this adapter which only supports 6 buttons:

https://rgbslab.com/products/av9000tb-to-neogeo-adapter

I've read there's a PSX adapter for it which I would think works with all 8 buttons. If I can find that I would be able to use it with the Reflex Adapt into the MiSTer.

Any other ideas for getting all 8 buttons out of this controller or is the above my best bet?

The 9000TB to NeoGeo adapter supports all buttons from that arcade stick, please check its pinout:

The 7th and 8th buttons that you want to use are actually start and coin on the 9000TB.

Only 6 of 8 buttons register on the MiSTer for me through that adapter. Any idea why that would be happening?

The adapter's product page says it supports 6 buttons but maybe that's not counting START and COIN.

There are 6 action buttons + START and COIN on the connector. Which ones are not working for you?

I have the previous version of the stick, the one with native DB15, and although there are 8 physical Seimitsu buttons, button 0 is a duplicate of button 1, the one below 0 is a START button. Plus the small coin button in the upper right corner.
So 9 physical buttons, actually 6 distinct action buttons + START and COIN. Seems pretty similar.

This adapter supports all 9000TB buttons, meaning 4 directions, 6 action buttons, start, coin.

If MiSTer doesn't register all available buttons, this can mean two things:
- Your DB15 to USB or SNAC adapter is only for the NeoGeo controllers (4 buttons and start+coin). Can you give more details about your MiSTer adapter?
OR
- There are two unconnected buttons in your 9000TB.

You are correct. Confirmed that my DB15 (Neo Geo) adapter is wired for 6 buttons total. I could replace the HAS adapter if there's an adapter that can convert the TB9000 signal to something else. Or I could keep it in the chain and add another adapter that converts DB15 to something else. Here is the full list of controller types supported by Reflex Adapt. I need to convert to any one of these that natively supports 8 or more buttons:

NES + SNES + Virtual Boy (2P)*
Genesis + Saturn (2P)*
PSX (2P) / GunCon (1P) / neGcon (1P) / JogCon (1P)**
Neo-Geo (1P)
PC-Engine (2P)
3DO (6P?)***
Jaguar (1P)
N64 (2P)
GameCube (2P)
Wii Classic (1P)
Sega Master System, Atari 2600, Commodore 64 and Amiga (2P, digital pads)
FM Towns, MSX, X68000 and PC-88/PC-98 (2P, digital pads)

Is there any way to pull this off? If there aren't any other adapters for the Sigma pinout then is there anything to go from DB15 to any of the above?

If that won't work, can I go from DB15 to SNAC or BlisSTer instead of Reflex Adapt?

I think you'd need to get a different stick if you want all 8 buttons + start/select to work as different buttons. Maybe you could directly wire a cable to the stick's PCB, similar to how this guy modded his 2200TB:
http://bz504178zb.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-474.html

But I don't think a DB15 cable would have enough signals to cover all the buttons, so I dunno how you'd connect it to the MiSTer.

Might be better to put something like a Brook board or misteraddon's Reflex Encode Fighting Board in the Sigma stick and connect by USB for MiSTer. I'm guessing the stick's turbo controls won't work that way, though. Plus, IIRC Sigma sticks have their buttons soldered in, so you'd have to solder the board in. Yeah, might be easier to just get a new stick.

That's the thing. It's 8 buttons total so no separate start/select.

OK, maybe try checking the signal path with a multimeter to see why certain buttons aren't working with the adapter.

It's because my DB15->HDMI adapter (HDMI goes into the Reflex Adapt) only supports 6 buttons instead of 8. I've confirmed this with the designer of the adapter and it's because Neo Geo only has 6 buttons even though DB15 can support 8.

So I need an adapter to go from DB15 (or the Sigma pinout) to any of the above listed systems/connectors.

Ah, I see now. Maybe make a Daemonbite adapter, or have someone make one for you:
https://github.com/MickGyver/DaemonBite-Arcade-Encoder
That should allow you to connect to MiSTer with 8+ buttons.
