Brand new cabs

Post by icycalm »

I went to G-Front today to ask if they sell brand-new cabs, because I am in the market for an Egret II or III. They said they don't sell new ones--only used. Apparently, only arcade operators can order new ones from Taito.

Or at least I think that's the explanation he gave me...

Can anyone confirm this? Do you know of any places that sell new cabs and/or motherboards (Naomi, Atomiswave, etc...)

We looked around for ages for new cabs. Any of the big names that you mentioned above we couldn't buy without games. And buying them new with games is EXPENSIVE (in the range of $5000+ per cab).

In the end we went with the "LS-Sound 25-29" cabs. These are Chinese made, and we can get them brand new for a fraction of the price (we buy by the container load, which helps too). I believe coinopexpress and killercabs sell the same units in the US and Europe.

We didn't want to see ex-location units. Quite frankly the repairs you need to do on half of them in a container full negate any sort of profit you'll make selling them on again. That's fine if it's just your hobby, but no good for people who run businesses.

Yes, you have to go directly to Taito if you want a new Egret 3. I checked last year, and it was around 360,000yen. Sometimes you can order from an arcade distributor, but then it's usually sold only together with a new game release.

edit: This might help - http://www.taitotech.com/

www.excellentcom.net has brand new Naomi GD-ROM drives, etc. Naomi and Atomiswave parts are available new from Sega, but it is difficult for the consumer to order directly.

I looked at Sega Direct and it I couldn't find any pages where they sell Naomi or Atomiswave hardware. Also, if you type Naomi or Atomiswave (in English and katakana) in the search, you get nothing.

excellent.com doesn't seem to have any new hardware either, only parts.

I am going to look more into the Naomi/Atomiswave situation and I will post here any results I find. I will also try to contact Taito for new Egret cabs, but not right now. I can't really afford a brand new cab+game right now, but maybe sometime in the next few months.

Sega doesn't sell anything but consumer goods through Sega Direct. You'll not find Naomi anything there. You should probably find a distributor.

Matsu in LA seems to have some sort of connections in Japan, as he got a bunch of Atomiswave branded Egret 3s that look as if they are new (although I guess could be "slightly" used).

All second hand and ex-location. Some badly damaged stuff there.

As I said before outside of us there's no-one in AU who sells new cabs. It's all second-hand stuff only. And funnily enough, all the second hand gear is more expensive than the new stuff. Go figure.

I really wish there was a good source for egret 2 or 3's in the US. Even used ones. All the normal cab sellers say finding egret 2 is 'hard' and then try to sell me an astro city.
