Videogameauctions.com is now 100% free to use

Post by Kron »

I've been talking to the owner of the site tonight and he's decided that perhaps the only way to go forward and to make it an option for people is to remove all charges and fees so that the site is totally free for everyone to use.

As everyone knows the online marketplace seems to be dominated by ebay, Unfortunately ebay of late doesn't have the best customer service and it seems to be taking liberties with its position when it comes to charging what it wants. The other main problem is the large amount of spam auctions and pirated goods that are never removed when clearly against the guidelines they originally set.

The guys at VGA are a dedicated bunch and have set the site up in a way so that the problems ebay create won't be duplicated. The site is genuinely there to benefit the users and hopefully this gesture will go a long way to help showing this.

There really is no catch its just being offered to see if people really care enough and want to see the marketplace expand and inturn want better service and features in the process.

Please help spread the news as the site can only work if people make an effort to use and support it.

For the cynical out there I'm not paid anything by the site, I just make the effort to spread the news as the more options we have the better deal we get.

Anything infringing on copyright should be removed immediately, Is there any particular reason as to why people could see benefit from allowing the sale of boot pcbs?

Is it a certain version that people specifically want or is it just a general query D?

General. It means that pcb sellers can only use it for original pcb's. This might put them off. Now the new auction site might not want to do business with pcb sellers that sell non-original pcb's. The fewer sellers there are the less attractive it becomes for pcb buyers like me that want pcb's regardless of originality. I know I am a sinner and god will punish me after all this is over.

Its not the point of someone being a sinner for not caring if the product they buy isn't original its just that there is an onus on a site open in the public domain to keep along the copyright and trade guidlines and at the same time operate in a manner thats fair to everyone and offer what should be a managed marketplace for people who are selling legitmate items to not be placed against people who are selling counterfeits.

There are so many scenarios its almost impossible to please everyone.

Ebay pull PCB auctions if someone points out it's a bootleg.

I pull chips off bootlegs, great source of parts :)

Oh lord, somebody thinks this site may fail because it doesn't allow bootleg PCBs...

It's so funny I can't even crack a proper joke. Maybe Neon can work with this...

Question is - will it fail faster or slower than your average bootleg PCB, and will even fewer people care?

VGA is a very good site

I bought Gigawing 2 Jap DC off there recently - £16 GBP Buy It nOW :D - cheapest you can get it off ebay currently is $90 USD (£45 GBP) Buy it now

about the only thing that lets it down is that most of the stuff on there is crap. this would obviously change if more people used it and it had a better selection of used games, especially imports

i wouldnt have a problem buying off there again or indeed listing my stuff esp if its now free :)

Wow, really truly unbelievable.

If even fewer people will care and can't see the value in a free marketplace then the joke is entirely on them.

Is it really free? It depends on how practically you look at things.

If I list something on ebay, the chances are that many more people (in LOTS of countries) will see it, and potentially bid. Also, since more people who don't know what they're doing hit ebay immediately, this coupled with more bidders increases the likely value my item will fetch. It may even double it - considerably offsetting not having to pay listing+final value fees. Using a free site may not cost anything, but it may well reduce the actual amount of money I end up with. As a seller, this is bad.

So, sellers will always sell where the pool of buyers is largest. Buyers however, will always go to where supply is highest, which again is ebay.

At the same time, enthusiasts use videogameauctions. Enthusiasts in every single thing I've ever been into, are ALL the same. They expect top dollar, and ask for it (and end up rarely selling anything), while expecting to pay rock bottom. Every time I've looked on that site, I've either found nothing I was interested in, or only things that were horribly overpriced.

Ebay are scum, but they have a very effective monopoly, and it'll be very hard to draw people away to an alternative which is MUCH smaller.

What are you on about £16 GBP for Gigawing II is a very good (cheap) price for the game

i agree that there is a (smallish) mire of shite you have to go through to find gems like this tho

i think sellers have to ask less if they use VGA- the site still offers buy it now tho so you dont have to end up unintentionally selling for next to nothing

i dont think ebay fetches that good prices unless what you are selling is really rare and in demand

and you get the advantage of only video game enthusiasts looking at VGA and so are more likely to purchase your item is it priced reasonably and is not "bargain bin" type of game

Save it bloodflowers. It's all been said before. He doesn't like ebay and the people who use it are stupid and shooting themselves in the foot and have only themselves to blame for their lives being such a horrible mess full of such horrible experiences etc etc etc etc

I initially wanted to create a joke for D's benefit since I definitely think spending money on a bootleg is retarded (that's me trying my very hardest to not be a dick there), but you did one better.

I wouldn't have said another word except that the always tactful messenger for the site has once again decided that anyone not using it is the product of some horrendous self inflicted joke. He'll tell you that using the site is awesome. But the best he's got for the naysayers is still "Welp, you're pretty dumb then".

Here's a joke:

Can I get a DS game? Just one?

Anywhere but VGA, sure.

I apologize to Steve who is a very good dude and the man that runs the place. He doesn't deserve for his good idea to fail and I hope it won't. He just needs to pick more tactful friends to spread the message before I'll (and doubtless a few others) get on board.

If Ronald McDonald had told me I was being stupid for not trying his burgers I never would have. Which is a poor analogy because, in retrospect, I wish I never would have. But you guys know what I'm saying.

Of course not dude. Some of my bestest gaming friends are English and I'm at least 50% English blooded.

Why would you ask that?

It's that I'm a seller and I want to make money. Also, I never really buy videogames off of ebay. Mostly just DVDs and other junk that I don't want to waste my time going to some sorryass shopping mall for. VGA won't help me there.

Can you imagine Ronald McDonald saying that to you as you walk past, half hanging out of the door. That would be insane. Then shrugging his shoulders and going back inside as you walk past.

Anything Ronald McDonald related is something else. They'll be making a video game with him in next.

very clever 99pence... i see you are referring to the fat that the Megadrive game starring Mr McDonald was developed by Treasure, are you not 8)

btw, captain ahar, i was playing RSG a fair bit last night.... the game is pretty hard but pretty sweet too.. i already prefer it to Ikaruga. have only been to the 3rd boss up to now. need to learn to chain better on level 3B.

ikaruga is obviously a direct sequel to RSG tho... "NO REFUGE"!!!

the ship also looks pretty similar in both games

although i didnt think RSG is as immediately impressive as i had been led to beleive... maybe it picks up later on in the game

dont know why it is valued so highly????

You'd better apologize! We don't take kindly to topics being derailed out here.

Say 99pence, just a few questions from some of our younger viewers:

When was it that you realized that you was the interweb king of comedy? Because ya know... I try. I think we all do.

Any words for the youngsters looking up to you, wishing to follow in your footsteps? The lil 99p's out there?

Any plans for 2006? You calling anyone out in particular or just crushing whoever the promoters put in front of you?

Thanks alot man, it's been a pleasure interviewing one of the greats.
