Tales of Legendia PS2
Tales of Legendia PS2
It was released today in the US and EVERYONE needs to pick it up. This series is terribly underrated and has an awesome action-based battle system, so people who don't even like Rpgs or tired of slow turn-based Rpgs can get into this. IIRC a lot of people here dug the great Symphonia, so I probably don't even need elaborate on the mertis of this excellent series. If this game is successful enough, we should get Tales of Abyss and more Tales games in the US.

Believe me I am all over it once I get paid. I have been a huge fan since playing the original Tales game (in the states anyhow) way back when on the PSX. Glad to see the battlefield is strictly on a 2D plane this time around.
I only wish this and Grandia III weren't being released so close together darn it.

The sad thing is, this is apparently one of the more ass releases. The battle system is apparently dumbed down, and it's mainly a polygon based game. I didn't bother with it. It came out a week after Grandia III (which was also a let down). Rebirth, the one before it, wasn't all hams and plaque either.
It does deserve support, even though Namco are making too many games in this series.

I know what I'm going to choose even though I don't know anything about it (Grandia III). I just bought Tales of Symphonia for $20 anyways.Jon wrote: I only wish this and Grandia III weren't being released so close together darn it.

The battle system is a step back in complexity from the recent releases, most comparable to Eternia, which IMO isn't a bad thing. Though I do agree ToDJ and maybe Symphonia are better, it's a solid title and if we want games like Abyss in English people have to support it.GaijinPunch wrote:The sad thing is, this is apparently one of the more ass releases. ToD isn't a good indicator, its battle system was slow and the screen was cropped. This game is leagues more advanced. Play Symphonia and you'll get a better idea where the series is at now.Rob wrote:"awesome". I couldn't finish Tales of Destiny and this battle system seemed really overrated. I think they were still as tedious (in repetition), they just require more manual effort to make it happen. I'd rather have turn based and save the button mashing for fighting games.
Rebirth was excellent, easily the best tales game I've played (and the only one I actually finished). Legendia was pretty much crap IMHO.
I got bored with it in a few hours. I just couldn't stand the moronic battle system, there's absolutely no skill/strategy to it. But maybe it's not so bad for people who haven't played Rebirth, which had a killer battle system. I've heard Legendia has one of the better (if not the best) stories of the series though.
I'll probably pick up Abyss sometime down the line, but recently I've been turned off by RPGs after playing one too many crappy ones (most recent was Rogue Galaxy).

Not that I play RPGs for their advanced and deeply emotion stories </sarcasm> but the whole racist thing got old after the first 10 hours, and it just agged on and on and on. I enjoyed Destiny much more -- the only other one I've played.Rebirth was excellent, easily the best tales game I've played (and the only one I actually finished).
For those wanting to buy Grandia III: It's not a terrible game, but a let down if you're expecting something as good as Grandia II, and a HUGE letdown if you're expecting something as good as the first.

I'm going to buy it having an RPG-shaped hole in my gaming schedule after finishing Dragon Quest VIII, but Grandia III will be played first.
Be attitude for gains:
1) Be praying...
2) Be praying...
3) Be praying...
And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.
