Post-Mortem DC releases

Post by Kiken »

With the high possibility that Under Defeat will be the true final official DC release, I was interested in looking back at all the prior "last DC games", beginning with Ikaruga (which was released on September 5th, 2002). I came up with the following list... but I think I may be missing some titles. Can anyone help me fill in the gaps?

Ikaruga: Sept 5th, 2002
Were there any additional 2002 releases after Ikaruga?

2003
Border Down: Sept 25th

2004
Puyo Puyo Fever: Feb 24th
Psyvariar 2 The Will To Fabricate: Feb 26th
Shikigami No Shiro 2: Mar 25th
Baldr Force EXE: Oct 28th
Chaos Field: Dec 16th

2005
Puyo Puyo Fever DoriKore: Feb 4th
Trizeal: Apr 7th

2006
Rajirugi: Feb 16th
Under Defeat: Mar 23rd

Someone remembers the exact date Sega announced stopping DC software support / hardware production, just for reference?

In other words the date of its "death" commercially speaking.

In USA, I remember it was January 2001. If I had to pinpoint it out of memory, I would say January 17 or 21, but not 100% sure.

I think there were more DC releases in 3rd quarter 2003 (a puzzle game, I think), but don't quote me on that.

Turrican asks a valid question, when did Sega cut the DC off in Japan?

This... http://www.sega.co.jp/dc/db/home.html ...should have all of the release info you need for your list. Try the date range search feature a bit down the page. Notable stuff post-Iky non-DreKore not on your list includes KoF2001 and KoF2002.

There were plenty of non shooter releases well into 2004. You'd go to gamefaqs and there would be a longass release list.

What's the point of this, anyway?

It begs the question though, "are dating sims really games?"

Did seem to be mostly bullshit like that. A lot of us thought the Baldr force game might be good, prior to release, but it wasn't.

Shame on us for thinking. :)

I luckily got to try a demo of it before it came out.
