When I recapped and installed fixels ODE last year there were no rgb kits available but just ordered one as i seen they were back in stock.
I already have a md2 hdretrovision cable so naturally I chose the 9 pin minidin with my kit.
The problem is... The hdretrovision cable transcodes the signal to component and this is fine if using one of my pvms, but I really want to play this on my 36" rgb modded jvc crt but it only accepts rgbs via bnc connectors.
I do have some left over 8 pin mini dins from some nes rgb kits.... I could just install one of these in the 3do and then buy a 8pin md1 rgb scart cable and a scart to bnc adapter but this gets pricey.
Ive seen mentioned a 9pin md2 bnc cable can be used with the 3do rgb kit solong as the signal caps and resistors are removed from the cable. This has me wondering if I could just make my own cable with a rgb bnc cable and solder on a 9 pin mini din connector on the end and break out audio to rca connectors? No signal smoothing or attenuation would be needed because its installed already on the rgb mod pcb?
If thats the case and the cable doesnt need caps or resistor then why if using a 8 pin md1 port with the mod, it suggests using a md1 to scart cable that likely has caps/resistors in the scart head?
3DO RGB mod... Need a BNC option
Re: 3DO RGB mod... Need a BNC option
You could maybe get one of the cheap Aliexpress RGBS RCA cables and then stick BNC adapters on it (they're also sold with BNC adapters if you don't have any). I've only briefly used the MD2 one with Krikzz's RGB Blaster, but it seems to work fine, although I assume it doesn't have any of the components needed for proper MD2 use.

I wondered about those and thought about ordering a pair but assumed it had some type of signal smoothing attempt going on inside like tantalum wrongly spec'd caps.jd213 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 2:34 pm You could maybe get one of the cheap Aliexpress RGBS RCA cables and then stick BNC adapters on it (they're also sold with BNC adapters if you don't have any). I bought a cheap ali rgbs cable for snes a few years back and it did not have any caps or resistors as the image was blown out and found i had to add the caps inside the snes on the signal lines so maybe the md2 rgbs cables are the same.
I guess its worth a shot since they are cheap. After i get the mod installed i could test on a pvm with retrovision cables before trying the ali rgbs cables.
Actually i may have some md1 rgbs ali cables in storage... Maybe ill just install the 8pin output connector instead ( the kit comes with the options to install a md1 or md2 socket connector)
Meanwhile while i bounce my ocd choices back and forth in my head, id love to hear any other experiences with cabling with this mod
