2024 24 Hours of Le Mans race going on right now

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

The world famous and prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race is going on right now. It's the 101th running of the world-reknown race indeed -- what so special about this current WEC (World Endurance Championship) race is, Lamborghini has four of it's Hypercars racing in it for the very first time (since it's initial inception back in 2021 as just mere drawings/composite sketches). Am curious to see how Lamborghini's Hypercar class/category will fare the full 24 hours or not. Considered as the ultimate endurance test between "man & machine," can the modern-day endurance race cars last a full 24 hours? Here's a youtube livestream of the #19 Lamborghini SC63 Hypercar at the race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8HXrpTwnk4

I know with Toyota/Gazoo Racing's Hybrid Hypercars, they've won the 24 race back-to-back two years in a row some time back (which shows they know just how durable and well-built their Hypercars are). With GM/Chevrolet's Cadillac Racing division within the Hypercar catagory, they too, are in it for the full 24 hours as well with three Hypercars altogether.

As usual, each racing team has three drivers allotted for the full 24 hours of racing with no more than three-four hours "behind the wheel" (as to not to induce "driver fatigue") before pitting in and switching drivers as per rules/regulations within the WEC racing guidelines. Back in the 20th century, there were some drivers known to race the full 24 hours (pit stops included) without a break whatsoever which is insane/crazy.

Three racing categories include LMP2 (Le Mans Prototype Class 2), LMGTE3 (Le Mans Gran Touring Endurance Class 3) and of course, Hypercar class (with the main attraction/focus of the Hypercar class this time around for the 2024 event). The "Iron Dames" racing team is comprised of three female drivers -- this is their second year racing in the LMGTE3 class (they made their grand debut at the 2023 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race). At the 2023 24HLM race, there were four separate racing classes (including the one-off NASCAR #48 endurance race car listed in the "Experimental Class," driven by Jimmie Johnson, that lasted the full 24 hours which was unprecedented/unheard of) going on, but for 2024, it's been trimmed down to just three classes.

In the LMGTE3 class, both a Ford Mustang and a Corvette C8R are racing which is cool (the C8R has been proven to win at the 24LM race in the past so it's quite a capable & competent race car as it is). A total of 62 race cars are entered for today's 24HLM race.

----------
Hypercar class - 1st place with Ferrari's 499P Hypercar with Team Ferrari AF Corsa -- back-to-back wins at the 2023 24HLM & now 2024 24HLM races. (ITA)

LMP2 class - 1st with Team United Autosports (GBR)

LMGTE3 class - 1st with Porsche GT 911 GTE3 with Team Manthea Ema (GER)
3rd with Ford Mustang GTE3 with Team Proton (GER) -- not bad for placing 3rd in it's initial debut.
-----------

Ford had brought it's all-new GTE3 based Mustang race car that made it's debut at the 2024 24HLM race. It's been said that Ford plans to race it's GTE3 based Mustang car in LM for the next three years (which is quite ambitious indeed).
