...it's from BitFunx though. Obviously a lot of people find them immoral. $36 USD, though... I certainly don't need any, but if someone does / has no issue with buying one - here you go

Re: New Dreamcast component cables
Interesting how it has a switch for VGA. Does it output Sync on Green or just 480p converted to YPbPr?
Re: New Dreamcast component cables
Looks like that is just the standard VGA and RGB toggle switch other cable makers label as 480i/480P. So just YPbPr.tongshadow wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 12:18 am Interesting how it has a switch for VGA. Does it output Sync on Green or just 480p converted to YPbPr?
Re: New Dreamcast component cables
Anyone tried this? How are they?
I’ve been after a DC component cable for months. RGC have been out of stock for ages and they can’t say when till will have them back in stock.

Re: New Dreamcast component cables
I would assume they’re fine, it’s just a simple tiny RGB to component transcoder built into the cable.
Man, it’s hilarious how long it’s taken HD RetroVision to make a DC cable. Maybe they’re just content cruising with the massive demand/profits on their currently-existing cables. I think they’re at *least* 4 years past their expected release at this point…? Haha

a quality RGB to component transcoder is never simple...

Re: New Dreamcast component cables
The switch doesn't make sense really. Well to me it doesn't.
It only has component cables on it. Which means RGBS at 480i/240p or VGA to component at 480p.
Unless it carries composite/svideo somewhere the switch is useless for the RGB non bootable games.
edit - I'm not sure if games boot in VGA that are not RGB compatible. Like Street fighter zero 3.

Re: New Dreamcast component cables
Well, I suppose I moreso meant tried ‘n true smol transcoder PCBs, like what RGC UK use (RetroTink design) and whatever thefoo.83 used in his Dreamcast component cables. Probably nothing too different from the wakabavideo ones, Shinybow etc.maxtherabbit wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 1:47 pm a quality RGB to component transcoder is never simple...
There’s lots of small transcoder PCBs out there on Tindie, eBay etc people have made for arcade boards, retro computers and things like that. I assume these new cables just use something like that.
But yeah, I get what you mean - none of those are gonna be on the level of stuff like the Kramer FC-14, Key Digital KD-VA5 ‘n certain other ones out there (like this Faroudja rack-mount RGB <-> YPbPr one I had, though it was standard def only)
Though, I *haven’t* ever really looked into what ICs all these different ones use. It seems they’re not like YPbPr to RGB transcoders where 99% of them implement a TI LMH1251 in their design!
Re: New Dreamcast component cables
It makes perfect sense: there are games that don't boot in RGB mode but do boot in VGA mode, and there are games that don't boot in VGA mode but do boot in RGB mode.neorichieb1971 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 2:14 pm The switch doesn't make sense really. Well to me it doesn't.

If you have RGB and VGA available to you, as is the case with this cable, you should pretty much have access to the entire library of Dreamcast games. You might have to pick and choose from different regions' versions, though.

All we need is a review of these Chinese cables!

Re: New Dreamcast component cables
Ok so does that mean the cable transcode both RGBS And VGA to component? Thats nice.darcagn wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 7:54 pmIt makes perfect sense: there are games that don't boot in RGB mode but do boot in VGA mode, and there are games that don't boot in VGA mode but do boot in RGB mode.neorichieb1971 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 2:14 pm The switch doesn't make sense really.
