NESRGB Missing SMD Cap Help

Post by MajorPBX »

Hello,

I've reviewed as many pictures as I can but I can not figure out the exact value of this missing SMD capacitor. I've sent 2 e-mails to "orders@etim.net.au" and I totally understand that no one has gotten back to me. However, I just need the value of this capacitor to finish my NESRGB installation. Any help identifying what the value is would be greatly appreciated. I believe if it's the same as the one next to it that it's class 1 which puts it in the picofarad range.

Board Version: 23.03
NESRGB41 T.W. 2023

Hello,

you have to look more to figure it out, like posting high resolution images of the board and the area. next step, try looking on silkscreen + probing around (continuity) to verify if it is actually a capacitor since it could be a resistor. Once we understand the circuit and where it connects to, then we can make a decision.

But first, does the board work?

if it is just a bypass capacitor then any value will work fine.

post the pictures and I will try my best to help you.

I do have a faulty nesrgb board somewhere (not v4), as a last resort, I can find it and read the cap value (needs desoldering and so on). lots of effort

That's fair, I had hoped the board's silk screen would be the answer however it doesn't indicate anything. Judging from other pictures found I believe it to be C28 but that's a guess. The board works as it outputs video and audio. It does have an issue with video. Seems like half the data is there which if I trace the board it seems like the missing cap is one of 2 needed. The cap is associated with J5 jumper which is the Luma trap frequency selection for either PAL or NTSC. I can take more pictures but I was kinda hoping someone just knew it off the bat. I get that was a long shot but I think I'm probably going to try a 100pF cap and see what happens.

Thank you for the reply and direction for further troubleshooting. I have another board coming in just in case.

ok, then before putting the cap check the encoder chip datasheet to see its value, if it is the luma trap one.

You know, I'm mad at myself because I should have checked the datasheet. 5pF dang it
