Games that should have gotten sequels.

Post by jpolz »

There are certain one-off games that I think are good enough that i would have liked to see a sequel, even if it was just more of the same, if nothing else just because it would be more....

Cyvern - This game came from way outta left field and just made my jaw drop....especially because it was pretty much unknown at the time.

Einhander - The atmosphere of this game has yet to be matched or duplicated.

Blazing Lazers/Gunhed - This may be just for nostalgia, but it was really my first SHMUP that got me into SHMUPs.

Radiant Silvergun - I guess you saw this one coming. And no I'm not talkign about Ikaruga. Just think it would be cool to see a proper sequal with all of the play mechanics of the original with the updated graphics and sound of a modern day system.

How about yours?

A Star Parodia sequel featuring PC Engine, Bomberman, Paro Caesar AND extra Hudson/Red characters like Bonk and Zonk would have been cool.

Cool idea, Dylan.

Also:
Mars Matrix
Dragon Blaze
Souky
Harmful Park
Though I'm not sure there's much to be improved upon here.

EDIT: I see you beat me to the last one Captain. Good thinking!

Although not technically a sequal, there was a revision made to Cyvern called "Cyvern Plus" which is essentially the same game but pumped up the number of bullets considerably. It must have had a very limited release as the roms have never been dumped, and nobody has ever really seen the board, only a few screen shots on some japanese cyvern tribute site.

Definitely Progear, or at least another horizontal Cave shooter of some kind. But everyone knows the DP series are the "sequels" to Batsugun. ;)

And Ganson mentioned MM, definitely needs a followup though the first game is so good I fear they might break it a bit.

I would love to see a sequel to Gaiares. And I think that they should stick to hand drawn artwork for any sequel too.

A sequel to 1986 Capcom/Romstar's Hyper Dyne Sidearms PCB...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Tis a shame that Capcom/Romstar never did do a sequel to their arcade Jamma PCB of "Hyper Dyne Sidearms"...the first time I saw it in action was at Great America amusement park in Santa Clara in April of 1987. It was priced at 25 cents per credit...very cool shmup arcade title for it's time.

Playing the PCE/TG-16 revisions of the Hu-Card & CD-Rom2 of Sidearms really doesn't come close to playing the original arcade PCB of the same name. ^_~

True. The only thing Gynoug needs is bigger, flashier bosses, more enemies, and some slick level graphics with loads of layers and parallax scrolling stuff. Remember the level where you are inside the demon's body and all those wavy patches of blood vessels are undulating in front of the screen? Yeah. It would be exactly like that, except through the entire game.

I just want to give another vote for a sequel to Einhänder.

Hey you guys on Squaresoft (now Square Enix) this one is a must!!

And please call the game Zweihänder. Like someone on the forums, I always hoped that Square will make a sequel and call it Zweihänder.

(Einhänder = One-handed)
(Zweihänder = Two-handed)

Now that would be sweet. Honestly, Gynoug must have some of the best and original level designs for a 16-bit shmup. An upgraded version would be cool. Why this game was neglected I'd love to know.

Another vote for Einhander. Other than that, Mars Matrix definitely deserves another game.
Feedback will set you free.

I'm probably the only one who does, but I pine for another "traditional" Cotton game...the series made HUGE leaps from the original up to Boomerang, but has all but gone quiet on the front since then...

I just wish that they'd re-release Gate of Thunder & Lords of Thunder on one of the newer systems. It's easier to find a 360 today than a TurboDuo.

Technosoft should have just released ThunderForce VI for the DC.

But I'd have to agree with Harmful Park and Progear.

And, whilst not a sequel, there was supposed to be a ThunderForceIV CD released on MegaCD. Imagine, a slightly upgraded TF4 with CD soundtrack....

The only sequel I want, from the king of sequels (Psikyo):

Sengoku Ace Episode 3 (or 4 if that crap portable counts). Specifications - 1. vertical scrolling. 2. plays like Gunbird 2. 3. looks as good as Dragon Blaze.

Takumi needs to make something original. I don't think MM could be improved, so there really is no point.

Konami would be wise to perhaps develop a third Thunder Cross game, seems as though they decided two were enough.

Einhander -- c'mon, just look at the ending...
Shienryu (Shienryu Explosion doesn't count. :? )
Solar Striker needs a GBA or DS sequel.
Psyvariar needs a worthy sequel.
Mars Matrix. or Giga Wing. it's been too long since the last Capcom/Takumi project. (GW Generations = crap, imho...)

First person to say "Hey! How about Mobile Light Force III?" fails at life.
