Mysterious V Blanking issue on Sony PVM 20M2U

Post by Anonygoose »

I have a 20M2U with a weird v blanking issue that I am unable to find any solutions for.

First thing to try of course was to recap the entire deflection circuit. From my experience that usually sorts out most deflection problems. Sometimes, you'll be left with a bit of a V blanking issue even after a recap that is caused by a failed resistor R598. I replaced this resistor, but still have the issue.

Then I scoured the schamtics to approach the problem systematically. Checked every component along the way, desoldred a few diodes and transistors for testing, but everything is completely fine.

I then pulled out the oscilloscope, and scoped a few pins on some ICs.

The only thing that stood out is on IC507, where pin 19 according the service manual needs to measure 3.4v. However in this case it's measuring 8v. One other thing that also stood out is pin 13. The service manual has a saw tooth signal of around 5.9v. I was getting a square signal, but with 5.9v.

Rechecked everything connected these pins in the circuit to no avail.

I went as far as swapping out IC507 using a spare from a dead board. No dice.

I'd really like to find a solution because the tube is healthy, and I'd like to sell this monitor to put the funds towards a 20F1E I have my eyes on.

Any help is really appreciated. I asked in multiple places but got no response.

No chance you have it in the A/B split screen mode, do you?

That's only available in the MD variant. Regular M2 does not have this.
