Dreamcast Kuro Plus is on the fritz. Advice?

Post by DragonQuarter »

I bought a Kuro Plus back on Aug 30, 2020. Just today I started getting visual issues when using this with both VGA and SCART on my RetroTink 5X, namely lots of lines and unevenness in the picture.

I tried another VGA box and the issue was not present, so I know for sure it's an issue with either the Kuro Plus or the breakway Kuro Plus cable/connector and not with my cables or RetroTink 5X. Both VGA and RGB modes have this issue.

While I wait for Behar Bros. to respond, my question is:

1. If they can't do anything about it, what's another option for me? I bought the Kuro Plus to play Dino Crisis on Dreamcast without any issues with the signal switching. Should I try Retro-Access' SCART cable (would that give me VGA-quality picture?) https://retro-access.com/products/dream ... 5604207667

Get a DC Digital (DC HDMI) installed, best option bar none.

If you don't want to spend that much, Retro-Access' cable will let you switch between 480p and 480i, and the Retrotink 5x should accept both through its SCART port.

Multi-purpose (has a sync combiner) VGA cable, also with a breakaway SCART adapter

Thanks all,

Between the Foo cable on eBay and Retro-Access, both seem like great options; not sure which to go with! Maybe Retro-Access since it'd be shipped from the US and not Poland (no offense to my Polish brethren!)?

Would love to, but between buying one (I bet they're sold out) and paying someone to solder it...it just sounds like a lot of $$$.

I'd save your cash and just play it on redream.

Go for the Retro Access version. There is nothing better out there besides going all digital with the DCDigital. The only downside is availability. Retro Access can be hard to order from and that Dreamcast cable is particularly popular and often limited stock.

The Retro Access version is also the only one out there that uses the PCB design by Dan Kunz. It makes the cables compatible with even the most troublesome displays like the BVM D and A series monitors. I upgraded from the Beharbros Toro and I sure wouldn't ever go back to that troublesome thing.

I know some folks with thefoo’s cable and they all have had great results / no compatibility issues. Not sure if it uses the same aforementioned circuit, but it doesn’t have any issues with the OSSC or gscartsw according to the listing/RetroRGB review. His shipping is quite fast, I live in the USA and I don’t remember the cable I ordered from him in the past taking long at all. Maybe about a week?
