Welcome to another of my videogame reviews.

Time to play more of those done-on-the-cheap games.
This time is Alien Destroyer by RandomSpin Games

The Eye-Drone is looking at you...
...but not for too long.

Alien Destroyer is a First Person Shooter where the objective is to destroy all of your enemies with your machine-gun like Plasma Rifle. There's no other weapons in the game to provide you a boost on firepower but you have a quick turn button so you can aim any enemy behind you faster and easier. All you have to do is to take the main robots and drones until the Black King, which looks like an evil version of the Atlas from No Man's Sky, appears and then you just shoot it out of existence and there you go. The game's finished. It will take you around 8 minutes to complete the game.
You only have 1 life and if you die, you have to start all over, also, despite having a considerably long arena to fight, you're still prone to fall off to your death, so you've better pay attention where you're moving and running. Unlike many of the trash games I've played, this one is at least fun on the "Vintage Arcade" level. The arcade level of play something quick while you wait for your fried chicken order is served. It's no Operation Wolf/Thunderbolt, but even for the 8 minutes it lasted, it was enjoyable. Also, the controls are quite solid, helping with the playability of the game. Its only flaws are the lack of lore and selectable characters, is like "You VS the Aliens", nothing more to say, grab the rifle and shoot'em.

Gunfight at Skeletorland.

Graphically, it looks very well made for a half-a-dollar game, especially the enemies which had pretty darn good detailings and even textures that makes them look realistic compared to the background which can best be described as "Skeletorland" as we have these humanoid statues with skulls for heads, hence the Skeletor joke for Masters Of The Universe fans and oldschoolers alike. If the game has any music I couldn't hear it because the volume levels are unbalanced making the sound effects too loud at the point of blocking out the music.

Thanks again, Nina.
It was fun when it lasted.

Just when I was planning to put this game in the "Trashfall" list the game proved it has some little worth to dodge the Trash Game category.
Alien Destroyer may look like a cheap and simple FPS waiting for your 50 cents and it has a couple of flaws along with its short length, but at least it was fun and what's more important it was enjoyable. Maybe it was for the pure zen of blasting things out of existence with your plasma rifle, but it was fun for the 8-10 minutes that you'll spend on claiming all the trophies before you uninstall it. So, if you're gonna pick a quick trophy booster, then this is a good, short game you should give a try.

And to evaluate this game and close the review, I think it's time to introduce the ESB Scale (Emilie-Sophie de Belmond Scale).

Good to know the Emilie Scale is on the positives today.

Asset flip games don't need to charge much more than half a dollar (USD) to make a profit so long as they can recoup the overhead costs - and with the amount of competition at that level, they can't really get away with charging much more, either. The other possible way of handling it is making it ad-supported free to play with premium elements, which may give a trickle of income from players just trying it out, with the possibility for a bigger payday from dedicated players...but that of course equates to probably some shady gameplay design antics. Adding something like an "arcade" mode is a good box to tick for a game like this in order to hopefully stand out.

Anybody can try their hand at making one of these kinds of games, so long as they have a little spare time. You could quickly make your own attempt at a Shadow Tower style of game, for example. I was impressed to find that even mid-range phones from a few years ago can run fairly good-looking FPS games with responsive on-screen controls; when I first tried it out it felt very futuristic. But after playing with one of those for a little while I lost my interest. Still, it feels like an under-appreciated format and genre, so thank you for doing a writeup on one that you liked.
