Help With CRT not turning on.
Help With CRT not turning on.
I RGB modded my Sony KV-13M10. I turned on the TV for the first time after the modifications and it looked great. I was playing games on it for about 20 minutes. Then I turned the TV off. After a little while, I tried turning the TV back on but no video would show. Now every time I turn it on, the TV powers on but instantly shuts off with a small pop and then a crackling sound occurs. Should I give up on it? What could have caused this? I don't think I made any modifications that were invasive enough to prevent the TV from fully turning on. Maybe the TV just died from years of use.

Maybe try and crank up the screen voltage a tiny bit? I know some(?) Sony CRT's shuts down if it does not get enough juice. Does the power LED blink red?

There is no power LED that I can see.

Re: Help With CRT not turning on.
Step 1 should be measuring all the voltages coming from the secondary side.

Sorry, I am not very knowledgable about these things. How would I go about measuring the voltages from the second side. Also sorry for the late reply.

Also, I have a somewhat unrelated question. So the RGB mod I did used BNC connectors. Naturally I had to buy BNC cables to test the TV. (More specifically I bought a PlayStation 1 scart cable and a scart to BNC cable). My question is this: If I buy BNC (female) to RCA (male) adaptors, can I simply use the BNC cable with TV's that only have component and composite. So could I plug the sync BNC cable into the yellow composite jack, and the red green and blue BNC cables into the component jacks?

Re: Help With CRT not turning on.
No, it won't work that way since Component video typically uses a different colorspace (YPbPr) than RGB. In this case, what you'd need is an RGB/SCART to YPbPr/Component transcoder box, such as the RetroTink RGB2COMP or a similar device.TetsuoXLI wrote:Also, I have a somewhat unrelated question.
