Xevious 3DG Secret
As you know if you bomb to the right of the screen in the original Xevious the message 'Namco ORIGINAL Program by EVEZOO' will appear.
I was playing the successor Xevious 3DG the other day and I started wondering if the same was true for this game. So I started bombing. In the very beginning you have to cross a river. If you drop bombs at the edge of this you will get the secret message.
"NAMCO ORIGINAL CREATED BY K.KENJO"
I have created two images one showing the message and the other one showing where to bomb.

I discovered the easter egg while playing on my JAMMA PCB. But I used MAME to make the screenshot. Apart from some stuttering in the video rendering I get 100% on my P4 3Ghz machine.landshark wrote:Neat. I love easter eggs.
Just out of curiosity, what are you playing this on? Does it run full speed in any emulator yet?

I have a P4 2.8Ghz and it never drops below 100%, 60fps all the time.
I was just about to start a Xevious thread - been playing 3D/G from time to time, and it's plenty of fun
there are other secrets strewn about as well, I've found that sticking to the top of the screen and bombing targets as soon as they appear make towers pop up. Not sure what they do except give points when bombed. Pretty nice Orbital-ish mid-90's techno remixes of the original tune as well

Well actually I am not much better being playing Zenic on my PS2 for days...
Anyway, Xevious is always one a puzzle to me. The game seems simple and boring on the surface. But that couldn't explain the fame assocated with this game. So I think I just does not understands the mechanic of the game, and how it should be played. So please start a thread and spend some time to show us the hidden beauty of this gem.

I think you misunderstand we are discussing Xevious 3DG not the original, the processor on the Namco System 11, would run rings around your mobile phoneSAM wrote: Playing Xevious on a P4?!?!What a waste of processing power!!
Do you know the CPU on the actual JAMMA PCB could not match even the CPU of your moble phone. Just how much the world has changed...

The GBA version of Xevious seems like you can't see as far ahead of your ship as you can on the NES and arcade versions. Perhaps there is some sort of screen format issue?sjewkestheloon wrote:i really want this. i've only ever played xevious on the gba and i loved it but the small screen made it almost impossible for me. plus the fact that you get the 3d one and some other stuff. it's just a shame it's rare as hell in pal land. oh well i'll keep looking
The NES port of the original Xevious is amazing though . It has super smooth control, no flicker, and no slowdown that I can recall.

The screen just plays tricks on you for the GBA version. They actually fit the playfield on the small screen. It's still a beta version and there's something to add at the end about Xevious' music and stuff, plus the story section needs to be rewritten. I hope you enjoy.

ok im not really up to date on PSX games anymore, last time i checked it was around $20ish..dave4shmups wrote:Cheaper then the PSX port!sven666 wrote:is this game any good?
i was thinking of buying it, the PCB costs almost nothing (even cheaper than the PSX port)...The PSX port's like 10 bucks on Ebay-brand new! But yeah, it's definately worth getting, it's a lot of fun. And Xevious 3D/G+ should be a no-brainer for anyone with a PS1 or PS2; it's got 3 other Xevious games on it! Too bad they didn't add Solvalou, though.
anyways the PCB only costs JPY2000 from fujita for example..

Xevious, Super Xevious, and Xevious Arrangement all have tate in the US version. If I remember correctly, they all have both regular and reverse tating too, unlike most of the PSX Namco Museums. Another thing I should mention, unlike in Namco Museum 2, the original Xevious in Xevious 3D/G+ runs perfectly on PS2.captain ahar wrote:sorry, i meant that since the psx version includes xevious, super xevious, and xevious arrange, do they support tate on the ntsc-u version.
should've have explained more, bad on me.

I hope you enjoy., One of my fondest memories is standing in front of the Xevious machine in my downtown arcade and playing. For some strange reason I love this game very much. I finally managed to get my very own Xevious game albeit only as a part of the Namco Collection 1 PCB. The arrange version is nice as well. Excellent page and excellent effort!

I don't know what you mean with "runs perfectly" BrianC - however, beware: unless you have a tate station and plan to play the game in tate, be aware that Xevious has nicer yoko modes in NM2. This is because the Yoko in 3D/G+ does scale the graphics, and as a result you'll have terrible flicker and your eyes will bleed. NM2, on the other hand, supports a "Toaplan-like" yoko mode, with stats bar on the right, and pixel perfect graphics in-game.BrianC wrote:Xevious, Super Xevious, and Xevious Arrangement all have tate in the US version. Of course, all this is valid just for the original - to play all the others, you still need 3D/G+, so...

Great article on HCG101 (thanks Turrican), nice to know this game is appreciated by others (and thanks to Kurt Kalata for HCG101), I didn't know Xevious 3D-G for PSX had so many varaiations of Xevious (Super, original, Arrangement, 3D-G).
I was glad to see the original on Namco Museum 50th Anniversary.
