I get that mechanically Ai Cho Aniki is a perfectly "fine" shmup. It's definitely not A tier compared to what the PC Engine delivered...but that doesn't matter to me. This game is so odd, so charming, so colorful and has such a memorable soundtrack that it's definitely my favorite shmup to play on the console.
The Street Fighter inputs in a shmup? So much fun!
Ai Cho Aniki; it might not be the best shmup but I love it

Yeah, it's one of those games I'm aware is objectively not that good but I always enjoy playing. Seems like it would be fun to route out glitchless scoring too.
It's also a bit special to me as it was the first shmup I 1cc'd!

I love Cho Aniki to bits, got the original on PCE-cd, and this looks close enough so maybe I should get this too.

The original Cho Aniki is more of a genuine shoot'em up. Ai Cho Aniki is its own thing entirely. The constantly draining health is incredibly weird for a game of this style, as is the ability to just pass through enemy bullets unharmed.
But it's amazing for it's crazy music and visuals, and incredibly manly odors.
