There are a ton of Chinese clones out there now and I tried several hoping to do a shell swap myself. Nothing came through as a clean solution. These are so cheap to manufacture now that oftentimes the PCB inside is TINY. Not even comparable to what sits inside a real NES controller.

All of these performed just fine as cheap clones go, but none are anywhere near OG quality. It's hard for me to say that you'll find one that does what you're looking for. The best solution might still be to take an original pad and get that RetroUSB conversion kit that's been around for years. I do think you can still order them.

Straight replacement confirm.. but MiSter does not see the controller without a USB hub.. not sure if a driver issue or power issue in MiSter.

glad you found that. Those controllers are notorious for having a PCB/Dpad lottery, though, which was why I didn't recommend. Some are near 1st-party quality, some are absolute shit. Not sure if there's a difference across NES/Classic/USB versions.

Great to know some are swappable, but I wouldn't gamble on them at anywhere near full price.
