Battle Garegga tate mode control question

Since I got a new TV-set a while ago, my old TV became my dedicated tate TV. Remembering that Battle Garegga features a tate mode, I wanted to try it out... but:

How do I rotate the controls for tate mode in Battle Garegga?

When I switch to tate mode, the controls remain the same as normal mode, which means I have to hold the control pad sideways!?!

There are several different "yoko" and "tate" modes in Garegga: check Icarus's ST for the game in the Strategy forum, he has pictures and explanations for which icon on the options menu signifies "true tate" in one of the thread's early posts
