Hope everyone is well and enjoying their hobbies/games and TVs.
I'm a long term video game enjoyer and lover of CRT TVs. I have quite a large collection of CRTs and am now at a time where I'm ready to start really understanding what I have, servicing/repairing and calibrating them to the best they can be. My primary focus is my B&O AV9000 Mk1, AV9000 Mk2, MX7000, MX8000, Avant 32 DVD RF.
However to start with I have purposely bought a little JVC 14" and also have a lovely 20" JVC that has an insanely colourful picture with great black levels.
In terms of Tools I have available to me, I have all the core tools, screwdrivers, brushes, digital callipers, Dremel etc. but more technical and appropriate I have a desoldering station, T12 soldering iron (temp controlled), high voltage probe. When it comes to calibration I'm interested in the people that use the RPi and HCFR software. I also have a Spyder 2 and Spyder 4. Finally I have a PS1 with the 240p test suite.
OK so back to the little JVC. I picked this up locally for £10 on Facebook Marketplace for the sole purpose of learning how to work on CRTs. Straight off the bat It has a really nice picture, but there is also a slight issue. When in the 240p test suite the lines on the main menu aren't straight, they are wavy. I can confirm if I lower the contrast right down the lines straighten up, so this is something I'd obviously like to fix.
The set is composite and mono only, I have to say the composite is insanely clear and sharp, for PS1 usage I'm not sure I'd notice the difference compared to RGB SCART. I'd like to use this TV as my bench TV for testing consoles etc so I'm tempted to RGB mod this. I've not found a direct service manual, but I have found one for a similar model and it seems to suggest there is a jungle chip, but I've only found that chip mentioned once on this forum, so I'm guessing its not a popular one.
I'm happy to do what ever jobs this CRT needs but I'm not really sure in which order to do them or where to start. I'm just waiting for my high voltage probe to be delivered so I can discharge the CRT safely and remove the chassis to start writing up a cap kit for this TV. but I'm keen to hear if I should be doing anything before hand? I've had a play with the service menu which is 'With the TV on hold Mute and I (information) simultaneously'. It seems to have a few geometry adjustments VER. POSITION, HOR. POSITION, VER. HEIGHT, VER. LINEARITY, VER. SCURVE.
Where is best for me to start? Also I've just started a YouTube channel to document any B&O repairs I do. I've put up some videos on B&O speakers and I'm hoping to document and give back to the community everything I learn

Thanks in advance,
David.
