Would there be any need for putting a multisync monitor in vertical mode?
I think what I want to ask is,
Are there any tate/vertical mode games that use higher than 240p/15KHz resolution?
(I think I have seen some dodonpachi game that uses 480p, but am not sure)
Is there need for a multisync monitor in tate/vertical mode?
Re: Is there need for a multisync monitor in tate/vertical m
Most of the Cave shoot'em ups have native 480p resolution in their "HD" versions (on 360, Steam and on Switch).

Ikaruga on DC and GC as well.

Are the 480p versions legit 480p of content or line doubled 240p type of thing?Fudoh wrote:Most of the Cave shoot'em ups have native 480p resolution in their "HD" versions (on 360, Steam and on Switch).

Under Defeat HD for sure. Not sure about the resolution(s) of the Dreamcast version though. I wish that Xevious Resurrection had a tate mode.
I've been wondering about having a dedicated HD vertical shooter monitor for tate games (probably use a G520) so I'm quite interested in how many games would make use of that setup.

Yes sir! The Xbox 360 with a multisync monitor and a VGA cable is a beautiful machine for shmups. Most of the "enhanced" Cave ports render at 640x480 and are absolutely gorgeous on a 31khz TATE display. Some of the 3D shmups (Raiden 4, Eschatos) look their best at 1024x768, but are pretty good in 480p mode as well. It's really hard to back to playing these games on a flat panel after seeing them on a VGA monitor.oldgamer wrote:Would there be any need for putting a multisync monitor in vertical mode?

Dreamcast has several VGA compatible shmups too, as others have noted.

It's pretty cool that more modern shmups use higher quality resolution, but at the same time it makes it even more difficult to have a definitive setup that can run everything.matt wrote:

.
Is there even any arcade crt monitor that can do 768p? I know those super rare monitors like the xm29 and the like can do it, but I mean something more obtainable.
Seems like pc crt is the only solution.
