It is mentioned that there are extra challenge modes in Generations-but what are the challenge modes like in Galaxies (I've never heard of challenge modes in a Gradius game before), and is it really worth getting Generations instead, for the extra challenge modes
Is Gradius Generations worth buying over Gradius Galaxies??

Well, there are no challenge modes in Galaxies. Moving on...
Generation actually has three challenge modes. For Challenge A you have to play through each checkpoint one at a time (starting with nothing), on loop 2 difficulty. Challenge B is the same thing but on loop 3 difficulty (yikes.)
Then there's the Final Challenge mode, which I haven't unlocked yet so I don't know what it is.
Some other things new to Generation (compared to Galaxies):
- 100 point bonuses for each power up.
- An extra 5000 point hotspot
- The game remembers which ship you chose last, and makes it the default choice next time you play.
- The memory reset code appears to have been removed.

What do you mean by checkpoints, ie; could you describe the challenge modes in more detail. And what's a hotspot??Zach Keene wrote:Well, there are no challenge modes in Galaxies. Moving on...

OK, thanks BrianC! Now I understand. Well then, it definately sounds like it's worth buying over Galaxies!BrianC wrote:Hot spots are small areas you can go through to get extra points. Checkpoints are in many shmups. They are restart points in stages.

I'm actually thinking of getting Gradius Generation despite owning Galaxies. It's cheap at YesAsia and I have a coupon for 5 dollars off.dave4shmups wrote:OK, thanks BrianC! Now I understand.
