The upcoming Psikyo collections for PS4 could be some winners if the lag is under control. It's the bare-bones Switch collection + the online ranking added to the Steam version + a new training mode added in the PS4 version

I'm partial to the Caravan Shooting Collection on Super Famicom (with Star Soldier, Hector, and Star Force) but I realize not everyone is into 8-bit shooters.

The most recent Aleste collection is pretty great. Missing some more recent key titles but if you love the early pure shooting games, this set is a no brainer. Plus it has GG Aleste 3.

I'd have to point to Gradius Portable/Gradius Collection (and by extension also the Salamander/Twinbee/Parodius packs too) on PSP as being pretty good too.

It's a nice collection that. I thought I was the only person who liked it!! :)

The recent Darius Arcade Collection is a solid candidate.

In the mix are RTypes on PS1 and the Parodius/Gradius/Salamander Deluxe packs on Saturn (and I presume PS1).

Taito Legends 2 when it comes to quantity of good games:

- Darius Gaiden
- G-Darius
- Metal Black
- RayStorm
- Gekirindan
- Gun Frontier
- a bunch of Space Invaders games
- probably other games I am missing.

Raiden Fighters 1, 2, and Jet. All with just about every option and tweak you could ask for.

There was a botched Steam Version (Raiden Legacy) containing the same titles (plus the original Raiden), but the 360 version is really among the best arcade conversions ever. In terms of video options it easily surpasses any of the more recent M2 conversions.

I would like to nominate the oft-overlooked Sega Ages: Fantasy Zone Complete Collection, the final and best Sega Ages release.
  • First, it's an actually comprehensive collection of the entire series, including spin offs like FZ: The Maze and Galactic Protector, and the Sunsoft-developed Super Fantasy Zone, all perfectly emulated.
  • Fantasy Zone Neo Classic, an actual remake of the NES port, which is a weird extra but above and beyond
  • It's packed with bonus features, artwork, sound test, interviews with the developers, etc.
  • Fantasy Zone II DX, essentially a new game that attempt to rewrite history and give FZ the sequel it deserves, is arguably one of the best shmups ever.
It's such an above and beyond labor of love compilation. Notoriously delayed and overbudget, and sold for only $25. Even among M2's other ports and compilations it stands out as one of the most comprehensive and generous compilations, not even counting the really excellent new game included.

Such as massive shame it's not been made available for newer consoles. A PS4 version would be awesome.

Got delisted from the online store a while back, also I think the Europe release kept getting delayed and just never came out  . North America and Japan got the physical disc so you'll have to search for those.

And yeah, it's awesome. Back when it was easily available it was my #1 recommendation for new players, due to the high amount of customization on multiple aspects of the difficulty (for example, bullet speed and bullet count are two separate settings that you can change independent from each other). You can start with all the settings low and slowly work one slider up at a time as you feel comfortable.

This is finally happening? Haven't heard anything on a PS4 release since September. Figured it got canned.

It seems so, yeah. They showed progress in April IIRC (along with the new Strikers 2020)

I'm a bit skeptical about the lag getting under control in the Psikyo collections for PS4. The Steam ports have less lag than Switch, but AFAIK, only with V-Sync off. It's possible the lag may still be less, but 4 frames seems to be a bit much for V-Sync off.

+1 for the raiden fighters aces comp and the milestone collection

It still blows my mind muchi muchi pork/pink sweets was a combo pack. It's not the best compilation but for feeling like we don't get the more obvious releases like a dodonpachi collection or an updated version of ibara with kuro I'm still surprised MMP/PS was ever a thing.

I wish we got a mahou daisakusen comp..

Does Eschatos for 360 count? Not a officially a comp, but it does include two other games that are every bit as awesome as the main game, if not more so. Both Judgement Silversword games for 360 were also sold separately from Eschatos in a comp for Steam.
