1941 - how the hell is it 31 years old?!

I decided to review every Capcom arcade game ever made on the CPS/Dash/2 and 3...and alphabetically that means 1941 goes first.

Which is awesome because of any arcade shmup I probably have the longest relationship with 1941. Played it in arcades as a kid in like the early 90's and loved it....but then as an adult in his early 20's I moved to Brooklyn...and the closest laundromat had a cab. I swear I spent more money in quarters on 1941 than I did on laundry. Broke my heart when they took the machine out for a SF II Turbo machine.

But damn for a 31 year old game it holds up. It feels way more modern than something that came out 31 years ago

I am not sure if I can agree with the "modern" feel, but I agree that it is definitely a *great* shmup. I used to play the Commodore 64 version back in the 80's, but never saw the original coin op. When it was finally emulated, I got into it, and I really appreciate how it brings you to the "zone" where you can reach a state of concentration and rhythm that just keeps you going on.

I don't think I have ever seen it in the wild. Saw 1943 all the time though. Definitely a great game with an awesome soundtrack so it's kind of a shame it was not more widely available. The Supergrafx version is solid as well.

I have never played the arcade version, but I have the SuperGrafx version. It's definitely my favourite SuperGrafx game, but it's not like it has a lot of competition. Great music and it's a lot of fun to play.

1941 has a C64 version? I tried looking for info, and all I could find were 1942, 1943, and a game created in seuck named 1941 and 1/2. I have seen 1942, 1943, and 19XX in arcades, but I'm not sure if I have seen 1941.

Oh noes.. looks like I have become old and demented.. it was indeed 1942 I was talking about, not 1941. Why did I mix up with those two, I have no idea. Even after I've been playing Capcom Arcade Stadium daily!

Truly a veteran of old school shooting.
Can't believe it's that old, but it still has a magic that keep us coming back for more. Something that most present day shmups are lacking.

Now, how could it come out only 1990 years after JC was born?
