Hi. i'm looking for some Saturn turbofire joypad opinions / recommendations.
Main requirement being D-Pad as close to official pad quality as possible, and independent turbofire for at least the ABCXYZ buttons.
I currently have a Hori Fighting Commander SS https://segaretro.org/Fighting_Commander_SS
Which is good, D-Pad is good but not quite up to official pad awesomeness imho. I could get another but would like to mix it up a bit.
How are the parts on the bomberman-branded Hudson S-Bom Joycard https://segaretro.org/SBom_Joycard , that one looks good. I've also seen this one in the UK a lot https://segaretro.org/ST_ProPad badged as the Wild Things Quantum in the UK but has other names like "ST Pro Pad" in the US. Anyone used that?
Any further recommendations / opinions on other alternatives would be apreciated, thanks!

Re: Saturn turbofire joypad recommendations
You're not going to find a D-pad as good as the official Sega Saturn controller from a third party, even a good third party. Period.
There really are not many decent solutions with individual turbo switches, and the HORI is one of the better ones. You might want to check out the ST ProPad. It's OK and has individual turbo switches.
In my opinion, games that benefit from turbo benefit even better from an arcade stick. HORI makes a good one for Saturn with individual turbo controls that can be easily and affordably obtained from eBay, the HSS-07. That is my recommendation to you.
I play my Saturn shmups on a real NeoGeo CD pad connected through an MC-Cthulhu. Microswitches make a big difference for me, and turbofire can usually be enabled in the game menus.

The ST Pro Pad is very cheap here, I might as well try that then thanks. For an arcade stick I use a PS1/2 HORI HP2-135 with a ToToTek PS1 to Saturn adapter. Do you think the HSS-07 is better?SCARTicus wrote:In my opinion, games that benefit from turbo benefit even better from an arcade stick. S-Bom is one of my favorite controllers.
The D-pad is as good if not better than the OEM Sega Saturn controllers.
The top row of buttons being the same size as the bottom is a plus, it never bothers me with the OEM Saturn pads but it's nice.
The only thing that's a negative is some/most of the rubber membranes are a bit different than OEM pads so when they go out that's it...

Is ST Propad similar to its Genesis counterpart? The SG Propad not as good as the official Genesis pad, but it's still pretty decent.
edit: That's a different controller, the Eclipse Pad, I was thinking of. Not sure why they use a similar name for a controller that bears more of a resemblance to the late official Sega Genesis pads that came out around the time of the Genesis 3. So much for name consistency.
