I called it!! Sega Astro City Mini Arcade!!

Post by Josh128 »

Sega has announced a mini arcade similar to the Neo Geo mini but apparently higher quality buttons and joystick, also includes USB ports for additional controllers. 10 games announced so far out of 36, so theres still a tiny bit of hope for some Model 2 and Model 3 games. This is probably what the "exciting news" was about when we were all disappointed with a Game Gear mini a month or so ago.

Game list so far:

Alien Syndrome
Alien Storm
Golden Axe
Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder
Columns II
Dark Edge
Puzzle & Action: Tant-R
Virtua Fighter
Fantasy Zone
Altered Beast

I think I'll be picking one up, it looks so. Death Adder!. I wish something from Model 3 made it over but I doubt it.

The pad has been leaked:

Apparently a standalone stick is being released alongside it, excited that we might get a new arcade stick styled like the Saturn one from SEGA.

Well, it appears the actual Astro City and Astro City 2 were used for Model 1 games, Astro City 2 was used for Model 2 games, and Blast City was used for Model 3 games. So, if I would speculate purely based on those facts, holding out hope for Model 3 games on it might be futile. I wouldnt rule out Model 2 completely yet, but we may only be getting System 16, 32, and Model 1 titles on this.

Now, if it does well, it very nicely sets the stage for a future New Astro City or (more likely, IMO) a Blast City mini. Current ARM technology should have no problem with emulation of Model 3 stuff. The only question is if Sega has a working, refined Real3D emulator.

In any case, this is still much cooler than the Game Gear mini. Makes me regret not getting the Neo Geo mini when it was $29 USD a couple months ago. How stupid was I not to jump on that, if only for a cool decoration if nothing else.

Good selection of games, but just like the Neo mini the screen just looks too small based on how it's expected to be used. Wish they used the Neo Geo Pocket as a model for this only with bigger and color screen.

I'd love to know what the remaining 26 games will be. Hopefully a lot of System 32 and Model 1 games and maybe some Model 2 fingers crossed.

The actual news was the "fog gaming" thing.

How many threads do we need for this?

We already have a thread here, so let's continue the discussion there.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
