Did I Fry My Trinitron?

Post by velvet »

Backstory: I had successfully added a SCART port to my Sony KV-27FV300, and in my last test of it, forgot to replug in a couple wires, one of which was a exposed lead to the grounding strap. When turning it on, I heard spark noises but it still worked, so when I went to turn it off it sparked again and I saw a white spot on the screen when that happened. Now, when I turn it on, the tube does not power up at all (audio still works), and there is a faint ticking noise coming from the flyback.

I posted my woes on Reddit https://old.reddit.com/r/crtgaming/comm ... trinitron/ and someone suggested I check the transistors as the flyback is probably ticking due to overvoltage protection.
I tested all the big transistors/voltage regulators I could find using the method in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhwuHF-ffpE (note: is this method correct?), and this is what stood out to me:
  • Everything is in the GK board
One transistor (D10SC4M) reads low on the diode test, somewhere in the 100-200 range instead of 400+ like all the others
Two identical voltage regulators (D4SBL20U) completely short on pin 2 to pin 3 and vice versa (reading of 0 on the diode test), which if I'm reading it's diagram right, shouldn't happen at all unless they're connected later in the circuit https://i.imgur.com/RpIizXI.png
I find it kind of suspicious that they both short in the same way, are they supposed to be like that? Or are they only shorting because the first transistor or something else is shorting?
Something else I discovered, the self-diagnosis feature blinks 5 times, which the manual has this to say about:https://i.imgur.com/O3CUyy4.png
I'm not sure what this means or if its the correct problem.

I realize I would need to pull these things out of circuit to really test them, but I just wanted to see if I'm barking up the right tree or if anyone has any other ideas or advice on I should do. Thanks!
