Finally got an SD2SNES this past weekend, great, great product. I understand the latest firmware does not support save states, but there is an experimental firmware that does. Has anyone here experimented with it and does it work well enough to be arsed with?

I ask because I was playing through the "fixed" SGnG last night and got to the final stage on the second run through the game, but it got late and I needed to go to bed. So rather than leaving the game paused, I reluctantly shut it off after all the work I put in. A save state option would have been killer.

Re: Save States on SD2SNES?
I've used it. It won't work on any special chip game. It seems to work on most other games, but the audio will not be restored when loading a state. Workarounds for this can be to get to a section of the game that has the corresponding audio track for the targeted state slot, or play the track for games that have a music select option and then load the saved state.

Its still only available in that special firmware, correct? I see it hasnt been updated in a while-- are there any other negatives to that firmware vs the official latest build that I should be aware of?

I don't think so, should be just as good as the official. If for whatever reason you want to switch, it's easy to switch between firmwares. Just keep a folder for each and rename accordingly, moving the subfolder for sram saves as needed.
