A little help with UVC Hookup into cab

Post by Hoagtech »

Thanks to @kitty666cats for finding me not one but 2 UVC's on eBay.

I'll be using it on a Brand new WG K7001 Monitor

I had a couple questions about hooking it up. The items did not come with any connectors

The manual says to hook up the J7 Strip to video output. Do you know what this connector is?

Image

It has the the 6 pins sticking out in the picture in the top of the board

Image

Emphatics website shows a setup on a Jamma finger board. Do anyone know the proper 4 pin Molex connector with leads that can be used on this UVC?

The manual lists it as "PC Hard Drive power connector" but Emphatics picture looks like he jumped a yellow wire into the connector.

Image

Finally. The unit does not support 15 khz input. I plan to using Irkin Labs Retro Scaler a-1 to line double and then down to 24 with UVC.

Is there any secondary power that will be needed inside my cab when I use these devices together

Any tips on connecting this device would be appreciated.

Congrats, I'm glad you found one (or two)!

I believe those are standard arcade monitor chassis connectors, 6-pin Molex in-line (IL) .156. They're not very difficult to find. Most online arcade parts shops have them, or you can grab them from digikey or somewhere similar.

I'm not sure why he jumped his yellow wire. In his picture there seems to be something else underneath that electical tape. Perhaps he has another power connector for something else. For my JAMMA harness I just have the standard 4-pin Molex HDD Power cable connector, no jumping of the 12v line.

I'm not sure why you'd do this. You might be introducing some processing lag into this set-up. Does your monitor not have the autoswitching circuit for 15/24? Is is a Nanao MS9? Some of those chassis' have and autoswitching relay circuit that detects when you're feeding it 15khz or 24khz.

I can't help you on the Irkin Labs scaler since I don't have one, but the UVC can just be fed power through a JAMMA connector like in Emphatic's picture.

Thanks opt2not.

I have the Wells gardner 25" k7001 which is 24khz only. their is no connector or switch on this model unfortunately.

I have to line double 15 to 31 and then UVC down to 24hz as UVC does not support 15khz input only output

It not optimal and will probably smudge my 15 graphics but I am forced to make this monitor work adn am looking forward to using it in one of my Aero's.

Whew, SCORE! If you ever consider parting with a 2nd one, holla at me, I could be interested! :o

I've got a 15kHz + 31kHz monitor, but sadly said monitor can't sync to dat 24 in between to toy with :'( I said it in the thread from "Wanted", but you'd best post some fre$h Paperboy and A.P.B.(<~~~ such a dope 24kHz title) snapshots when you get things up and running :)

Unfortunately the UVC does not accept 24khz input. 1024×768, 800×600 or 640×480 only. It outputs in 15 or 24 Khz.

You may be able to rig an OSSC in there to handle that.

What monitor do you have? its possible they have a 24khz connector on your chassis. All my Nanao do, just not my K7001 Medium only monitor.

Ill let you know if I want to sell one of them. I like how they hook up inline to 15 KHz to downscale 31 Khz and above.

Ill find out when I get one working.

It's not jumped, I thin I just tucked it in under the tape because I was lazy. Possibly, there are two 12+ pins on the UVC and I wanted to cover my bases in case it wouldn't start.

Power:
You wire the black wire to GND on the fingerboard, the red wire to +5V and yellow to +12V

Video:
6 pin female connector

I got mine from an old PC / ATX ”Auxilary power” type connector) for VIDEO (you wire this up to the fingerboard, Red, Green, Blue, Video Sync, Video Ground

Note: I wired both of the sync wires (H & V) coming from the UVC to the VIDEO SYNC on the fingerboard, thus making it into a COMPOSITE SYNC signal.

No problem man! Guess you wouldn't need to connect the UVC / resize Paperboy and APB at all on your monitor, since those are already 24kHz heh. So your monitor displays 15kHz AND 24kHz, right (and when you said 24kHz only you meant the frequency only went that high/isn't a trisync)?

I don't even have an arcade monitor, if I ever had one I would be using it on either my consumer set's YPbPr, my JVC TM-H150CG via RGBS or (15kHz) RGBHV, or my Sampo 15kHz/31kHz (no 24) 34" hybrid monitor/TV. I'll be rocking a CFW modified GBS8200 in the near future which will, I'm sure, suit all my needs (and beyond!). The UVC has simply been a curiousity, but I suppose it really belongs in the hands of those with arcade monitors :)
