DVDO VP30 + LG OLED TV

Post by NonToast »

Greetings all, I've haunted this forum for years for advice on scalers and monitors. Now I've come with an issue of my own. Recently I picked up a DVDO VP30 scaler to use with some of my retro systems, and I've run into something strange. Whenever I hook it up via HDMI to my 55' LG OLED tv, I get no signal or an occasional blue screen that will flash on, then back to no signal. I tried multiple HDMI cables, in all of the ports of the TV with no luck. I also went through the settings of the television and disabled anything I thought might be causing the problem (Instant Game Response, Ultra Deep Color HDMI, etc). From the DVDO side, I tried different color spaces, tried disabling HDCP, pretty much everything gave me no signal. I even made sure the output format was at 1080@60.

I even took the top cover off of the VP30 to see if I had any blown capacitors, or maybe the soldering had come loose on the HDMI output port. Luckily the only surprise I had found was an ABT-102 daughter board, which the seller had not listed, but it was also not seated correctly. I fixed that, checked around the boards, cleaned out the dust, and still no signal. At this point I hooked it up to my 55" Vizio D50DU1 TV, and it works flawlessly. So this begs the question of what on the LG tv is preventing the signal from showing up. Has anyone run into something similar?

P.S. The de-interlacing from the ABT-102 is something to behold, I think it even puts the Framemeister (my previous go-to for 480i) to shame.
