Bust-a-Move DS
Bust-a-Move DS
I had forgot it was even out, so when I saw it for $20 at Toys R Us I picked it up. Haven't played it yet, but I'm a big BAM fan. Majesco, I love those guys.
How long has this been out? Anyone else play it?

Well first off lemme say that it's pure, unadulterated B-A-M fun. Cute characters (there's more than Bub and Bob; there's also a ninja boy, a sorcerer, etc.) and some really awesome, catchy music. There are five different kinds of puzzle arrangements, each with 10 levels in one round. On top of that, there's an additional 250 unlockable puzzles after completing Round A.
The bubbles are most likely the largest bubbles in any of the series, I'd suppose due to the screen. The top screen has the puzzle and the touch screen has the character, where, if you choose, you can use your stylus to shoot off a bubble. Personally I find this method of playing pretty irritating, so I play the game with just the buttons. I did buy it because it was Bust-A-Move, not because it was on th DS anyways.
But yeah...I'll admit, I am a BAM n00b. I first played Bust-A-Move back in the arcades only a few months ago, probably sometime in May, and ever since then I have hungered for anything BAM-related. I'm actually liking this DS game more than Super Bust-A-Move on th PS2, if only for the music.
$20, can't go wrong.

I picked up two BAM DSs, one for me and one for my sister's boyfriend. I have to wait until Christmas to play it, but it sounds like a good game. I'm going to try the stylus method first, even though it's not traditional. IGN liked the method and it sounds like it may be worth trying to get used to. From what I read, how far you pull back the slingshot makes no difference, only the direction you move the slingshot.LoneSage wrote: The bubbles are most likely the largest bubbles in any of the series, I'd suppose due to the screen. There's another Bust-A-Move game on DS, the Japan only Puzzle Bobble DS. This one doesn't have the slingshot and has its own modes like a DS mode with new power ups and an edit mode. This version also uses only one screen for the game area, unlike the US Bust A Move DS. However, most places have it from 45-50 dollars, so it's a bit more expensive than the US BAM DS. I still plan to import the JP one eventually, though. Hopefully, Play-Asia will put it on sale.

And for the far better box art.LoneSage wrote:I'm actually liking this DS game more than Super Bust-A-Move on th PS2, if only for the music.
SBAM for PS2 has arguably the worst box art in the history of video games (at least for the US version).
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.
Yeah, the box art for Super Bust-A-Move PS2 US is one of the creepiest pieces of box art I have ever seen. The horror! http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=938139benstylus wrote:And for the far better box art.LoneSage wrote:I'm actually liking this DS game more than Super Bust-A-Move on th PS2, if only for the music.

Taito's Puzzle Bobble Pocket PSP is a cool little gem too...
When I went to the Fry's in Fremont, CA, and saw a bunch of cool Japanese PSP games for sale including the Japanese PSP import of Puzzle Bobble Pocket, I bought it for ol' times sake.
After hearing that Acclaim "went down under the bridge", they used to have the exclusive rights to the Taito Bust-A-Move games...but alas, no more.
The USA PSP Bust-A-Move game still has yet to appear on American retail store shelves and it's already late December 2005. Where is it, damnit?!
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

EB games lists the US PSP one for Feb. 2006. The JP PSP Puzzle Bobble Pocket looks like a GBA game with a long screen and has no two player. Both DS versions have multiplayer with a single cartridge and the JP Puzzle Bobble DS has more modes. The Japanese PSP version sounds like a rush job.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:When I went to the Fry's in Fremont, CA, and saw a bunch of cool Japanese PSP games for sale including the Japanese PSP import of Puzzle Bobble Pocket, I bought it for ol' times sake.

I played some Bust-A-Move DS. I like it quite a bit so far. The slingshot thing sounds gimmicky, but I actually like this method. It feels odd at first, but it is percise and fun to use. It is also a bit faster than the usual move the pointer and shoot method. I actually found the slingshot control to be more percise than the d pad control since Bust A Move DS doesn't have the option to make smaller movements with the L/R buttons.
