Why the Salamander/Gradius Gaiden Pack wasn't release?

Post by Fighter17 »

Why the Salamander/Gradius Gaiden Pack wasn't release in the US? Was it because of SCEA, or they weren't enough people interested in the games? I found this on Gamespot, old news about Salamander: http://www.gamespot.com/search.html?typ ... er&x=0&y=0

What was the real reason for the Pack not being release in the US?

I dunno if anybody knows since Konami is generally pretty secretive about that sort of response. OPCFG's response from Konami can be found here: http://www.geocities.com/opcfg2/5thanniversary.html

From here, the email claims it was Konami's decision but what could "not enough focus" mean? Is it not enough interest shown in US sample testing? Or Konami not having the resources to localize the game in light of other, potentially better sellable games? Or SCEA feeling that the game wasn't a focus that the PS should take? Or maybe Konami feeling it got screwed when they were forced to put both collections on the same disc (my guess)?

It doesn't really answer much but that seems to be the extent of our knowledge on why the Gradius/Salamander pack died.

"not enough focus?" To me that quote means they weren't enough interested in the US to spend the money on publishing it in the US. If you published all these copies and nobody is going to buy them, you have just lost money.

well, not just SCEA, but Sega also, as there was the Saturn version that never made it to the U.S. either.

I believe it was the same reason we didn't get the Parodius games, retailers weren't interested in stocking them. Konami is cool because they want to release just about everything they do over here, unfortunately, they also develop and publish so many games they don't really care to fight for the "insignificant ones".
