Proof that Ghosts 'N Goblins is evil.

Post by Tomtom »

So, I just played a few rounds of GnG, and had my best run ever (got to stage 4 for the first time!)

Anyway, look at the score I died with. I think this definitely says something about the game's creators. ;)

According to the latest interpretations of the original texts; the actual number of the beast is actually 616.

Fun game, but I often get stuck on the level 2 boss for some reason.

Furthest I've made it is level 5.

The secret to G&G is to just keep moving. Don't stop! Shh. Don't tell anyone.

Yes, an evil game.

The entire series is evil, but yet strangely fun, I've done nearly a one loop run (counting continues, as this game kicks me in the face everytime) on CCC, but gave up on the second to last stage before Satan.

Where are people getting this from? 666 was chosen because it falls one short of 777, the number of God. And yes, I realize 777-1=776. I'm speaking in metaphorical terms, which is how the whole thing came about in the first place. 666 is not a mathematically significant number. It's taken all too literally by these people who think that every time they see a 666 IRL it means Satan is hanging around.

*sigh* Just my little rant. Sorry.

It came from the original meaning, as early christians believed the current roman emperor was the devil.

here are some facts to explain things further
While most manuscripts of the Bible read six-hundred-sixty-six or 666 for the Number of the Beast in Revelation 13:18, some early manuscripts contain 616 instead. Codex Ephraemi Rescriptus (5th century) and Papyrus 115 (3rd or 4th century). Irenaeus knew about the reading 616, but according to Metzger, Bruce M. (1971). A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament, New York: United Bible Societies. ISBN 3-438-06010-8., p. 751, Irenaeus "says that 666 'is found in all good and ancient copies,' and is 'attested by those who had themselves seen John face to face.'" The minuscule manuscript 2344 (11th century) identifies the Number of the Beast as 665.

In May 2005 it was reported that scholars at Oxford University using advanced imaging techniques had been able to read previously illegible portions of an early (third century) version of the Book of Revelation, part of its Oxyrhynchus collection of papyri. The fragment gives the Number of the Beast as 616. Scholars now believe the number in question has very little to do with the devil. It was actually a complicated numerical riddle in Greek, meant to represent someone's name. "It's a number puzzle — the majority opinion seems to be that it refers to [the Roman emperor] Nero." Alternative spellings of his name, Neron and Nero, can explain the presence of both 666 and 616 in the records, since dropping the last 'n' changes its numerical value from 666 to 616 ('n' representing 50).

So anyway, how do you get the shield in this game? I got to the end using savest*COUGHCOUGH*...ahem...I totally almost beat the first loop in a credit, but I got the message that the shield was necessary. I sometimes get the shield from one of the little demons on the top route of the caves in stage 3, is there any other place to get this weapon?

the shield is the cross in non-japan versions of the game. sometimes it appears as soon as stage 3, or on the fire bridge in stage 4. usually you get it in stage 6 if you haven't got it yet, always in the same spot, a few floors above the dragon. if you see it, pick it up even early because sometimes it appears only once.

It's evil that the cross (or shield) is the worst weapon in the game. And you need it to fight the last boss and thus forced to pick it up and get pass some later stages with it... :?

It's seem Capcom consider the game is not already hard enough.

That's the same story with every one of the "special" weapons.

The worst was Supe Ghouls n Ghosts where the power and range of the weapon was proportional to how much armor you had. At least it eats enemy bulletes (just like the shield/cross).

How is that worse? I find it a very useful weapon. It's almost as good as the almighty dagger.

Can anyone tell me how to beat the two Satans in level 5, arcade version?? Point me to a web site even?? I can handle the one in level 4 but 2 is just too much!!

It is the same in Ghouls n Ghosts, your special weapon goes farther when in gold armor.

You mean level 6 of ghosts'n'goblins? You're supposed to kill them one at a time.

So how do you do that? They seem to always both come on the screen. You mean you have to carefully get one on the screen and keep the other one off??

exactly, you carefully lure the first one toward the left, kill him, then only kill the other one. like the stage 2 boss.

Because I spend most of my time without armor and it makes fighting the red devils a pita =) If you have the gold armor it's great. But if you lose it, the green last boss is quite difficult because of range issues.

hate to break it to you, but the 616 thing is real enough to be mentioned in the footnotes of the bibles in the pews at my local church when I was growing up, so 666 vs. 616 has been up for debate for at least a few decades.
