n64 joystick options modern opinion

I have broken apart, greased, replaced X and Y axis, waited to hear if a backorder from steel sticks would arrive, ETC.

What are the best options for joystick replacements on the n64 controller?

I have been nothing but let down by anything other than greasing decent OEM used joystick replacements, but the thought of the controllers being thrown away to donate the joy mechanism makes me want to stop participating in the cannibalism.

There is a new replacement that caught my eye on ebay but after getting the chinese ones 2 years ago, I noticed that the joysticks were slightly taller and used a different cog system internally which felt horrid and would catch my movements in a "hold" which would cause my joystick to not re-center and "drift"

Does anyone know if this is a decent replacement?

I'd like to find a cheap replacement as well. As wonderful as I'm sure the steelsticks are, i cannot justify the price.

I found that replacing the cradle-gears on an existing stick gets you 75% of the way there, but it's be nice to do something about the bowl without resorting to silly putty.

Kitsch-bent has replacement bowls and gears. I need to grease mine a little more because some diagonals get stuck, but overall my old joystick is drastically improved. Not sure how close it feels to an all original stick in good condition though.

The problem with aftermarket N64 sticks is they aren't 100% accurate to the OEM range. With an everdrive and the controller test program, you can test the range and tolerances of the analog sticks.
