Troubleshoot Tim’s N64 RGB Mod Install

Post by pattonthompson »

First time poster, would really appreciate any help. My soldering skills are beginner.

Maybe you can help troubleshoot my install. I have a MAV-NUS chip N64. I used the pin adaptor and soldered to the chip. Installed the ribbon cable on the adaptor. Soldered the ribbon cable to the “DENC” pad. And I soldered Red, green, blue, and ground to appropriate points on the multiout.

Im using this cable: https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/pac ... CART-CABLE

Which is wired for c-sync (gets sync from composite video and has built in sync stripper).

I used a multimeter continuity function and I have no bridges. There appears to be continuity between all connections. I even opened the scart cable head and plugged it in and there is continuity from the RGB and ground pads to scart head.

I plugged everything in and am running my scart cable through a shinybow scart to component converter. I have hd retrovision male-male component cables running to my CRT. I can make out some colors here and there but everything is completely scrambled. I thought it might be a sync issue.

I noticed there isn’t continuity between pin 10 for dsync on the mav nus chip and the dsync pad on the adaptor. I tried reflowing it a few times and no change. I removed that wire from the ribbon cable and soldered a wire directly to mav nus pin 10 dsync to the large dsync pad on the rgb board and there is good continuity.

Still had the same result. I thought it might be the cable so i took my packapunch pro snes cable wired for csync and wired CS# to pin 3 on the multiout. Still no luck.

I know its not the N64 because composite video still works. I know its not the shinybow converter because my sega genesis works just fine through it.

Im pulling my hair out, anybody have any other ideas? You think I fried the adaptor or board some how?
