Can Anyone Recommend a Competent PCE Duo R Repair Person

Post by jamisonia »

Hello,

I've had my PCE Duo-R for a few years now, and I'm having a big problem with the RGB video signal as it relates to the XRGB Mini. The video signal is very unreliable and drops out seemingly randomly and constantly. I've tried my hand at fixing it several times. I've switched from a transistor RGB mod to a THS prefab board mod, no difference. I've tried recapping the console, no difference. At this point I'm very frustrated and just looking for someone that knows more than I do that can get this thing working consistently with my XRGB mini.

Keith Courage at the PCEngineFX forums has fixed a system in the past for me. Not sure if he's still doing that, but he's excellent!

He is, I had my DUO repaired by him just a couple of months ago. He does good work, I definitely recommend him. https://www.facebook.com/turbografxfan/

Would you mind posting pictures of modwork when recommending someone? I think it's something we should all get in the habit of doing and I think every aspect of it is positive - If the modwork really is good (like the modders already mentioned here), it'll both be a compliment to the modder, proof of their work and set the bar for what other people's mods should look like. Also, if the work turns out to be crappy, it's good to know.

To be clear - I'm not looking to "shame" hobbyists that mod one or two consoles for their friends (I count as one of those), I just want to support the people who take the time and effort to do amazing work and weed out the few people who think they're pro's, but are actually just ruining people's consoles.

I did it myself and I don't do commissions anyway. I just couldn't figure it out what was the issue.

Anyway I looked around last night and managed to screw up a few pins and pads, and honestly I'm frustrated beyond belief with this console. Believe I'm just going to emulate this one, since I only really owned it for Rondo of Blood anyway.

May sell it off for parts or send it to someone competent for repair, which at this point would be major rework.

Thanks everyone for their help.

I work on these regularly. Almost 90% certain your issue is just using composite video for sync on the Framemeister. That generally has issues and requires you to turn the sync level up or it will drop sync. The best case scenario is to remove composite video and attach a properly built csync signal. Even if you damaged pads, I can still work around the issues for repair. I am always willing to share photos of my work and am pretty well known in the community.

I don't think this is a bad idea. In my case, I don't really have the time to take apart my system again to snap a photo, but I did open it up when I first got it back and the work was clean and tidy (speaking in regards to Keith Courage). This was in stark contrast to a different guy I had sent it to previously for a pseudo-freebie mod job, and that was a mess (hot glue everywhere, messy wire routing, etc).
