Dropped by SF State for the first time in a few months today to see what's new, and lo and behold RF2 and Strikers 1999, side by side. *Tear*
RFJ and Wyvern Wings are gone, I'll go and add this to the Arcade Locator.
Unfortunately the arcades were closed, but both machines look to be in pretty good shape. My bet is that's the same Strikers 1999 cab that was in UC Berkeley where Bernard ALL-ed it.

I remember when they were protesting at the start of the war. There were busloads of cops all over. It was crazy. But nothing happened.
The student union where the arcades are feel like one big cavern. I sure spend a lot of time and money there. That's also where I met cigsthecat and he introduced me to the shmup site and forum, and TNL.

Finally spend some quality time with Strikers 1999 today. I actually tried to TB a couple of bosses, foolishly rushing blindly at them, resulting in death of course. I got to 1-6, and I wanted to fight the infamous Geo-Bite, but I forgot how to trigger him, and got Cross Blade instead.
I checked the score board, and #1 is a player with the initials KAI, with a score of around 1.5 million, 2-4, with the X-36. It'll be cool if he/she visits this forum.
Maybe this cab isn't the one from UC Berkeley. Bernard needs to ALL this one too.
I definitely need to find time to play this great game.

To trigger Geo Bite, before the pods animate to eject the boss, hang to the extreme left or right of the screen (the center triggers Cross Blade). It's a bastard of a boss, but you can do the double tech bonus trick with him. I'm not sure if you can with Cross Blade. (well, I've seen it in a video, I can't do it myself)IlMrm wrote:Finally spend some quality time with Strikers 1999 today. Very cool. That's the place. Let me tell you: I spent a lot of time in the late 80s and early 90s hanging out at universities in the area--Berkeley, Stanford, Davis, SF State-- and without a doubt the hippest, coolest students were the ones hanging out in the coffee shop in that student union. All the girls with their dyed-black hair, black clothes and shoes, listening to their Sonic Youth... But this shouldn't be surprising. One could make the case that San Francisco was and is the coolest city in North America-- only NY, Montreal, and Toronto come close. Forget about it LA.IlMrm wrote:The student union where the arcades are feel like one big cavern. I sure spend a lot of time and money there. When is Psikyo going to give us a home port of Strikers 1999?! I NEED that game!
