Hi there Rando and DEL. Derek, did you receive my last mail? :D I finally got Border Down
Here's my crappy provisional score

DeSangre
23,545,340

1.Y Y Y 2.G/Y Y/R R 3.Y Y Y/R

I hope I wrote the route well (On stage 3 I died twice at the boss, is that correct?)

Later,

Yellow Start

Post by DEL »

Hi DeSangre,

I've been in Italy for the last week, so I haven't seen your mail yet. I'll reply on Tuesday.
Good to see you're attacking a Yellow Start! & Yes, you wrote the route down properly.
A few weeks ago, I started to play Border Down again in the Trocadero (where we met), then it was taken away. I suppose I'll play it on the DC, but it won't be the same for me - the Arcade is my natural habitat :D .

Just bought this game a week and a half ago, and I love it! Can't stop playing. Here's my best thus far:

TWE - 51,156,190 - Stage 3.3
Route: 1.R R R 2.Y Y Y/R 3.Y/R R R

I died right at the end of the first form of the 3rd boss on one of those lightning beams. If I could have held on and beat the boss my score would have been ~75 mil with a chance for more in Stage 4! Agh!!
I'll be back with a higher score after some practice.

Yeah, this is one of my new faves. The challenge is refreshing, as there isn't a swarm of bullets to dodge, just smart enemy patterns and a strong rank system. I wish more people would play it!

BTW, anyone care to post individual level-border high scores?

Here's my best for LEVEL 1-RED:

30,401,590 / 1081 HIT (383 HIT on the boss) / -00.16 SEC

Anyone beat that? Rando and DEL probably have.
I'd love to see what kind of scores people have gotten on LEVEL 1-GREEN, LEVEL 1-YELLOW, and others.

Last time I checked, the record 6D route was:

1. R R R
2. Y Y Y
3. G G G/Y/R <-- double suicide at boss
4. Y/R R R <-- suicide on first trashcarrier
5. Y/R R R <-- suicide on purple gunship

At least, I think that's how it went. I haven't played it for a long time, myself.

Well, my ST on the game. I think this is the best way to get a good grasp of the game, honestly, as the routes are surely definitive (even if i know that the final best scores are higher than my proposals in the ST, and i also know why :? ). Of course, this doesn't mean that you can't ask stuff, no?

Thanks for the info but I'm not totally sure how this relates to my previous post (or any other post in this thread)? :?: I was asking people to post individual level highs on different borders, for example LEVEL 1-RED, LEVEL 3-GREEN, etc. Not routes, just individual level high scores. So, has anyone beat my 30.4 mil LEVEL 1-RED? :)

The route above you posted is the 6D route, I believe. Current WR is 377 mil. I saw VTF-INO's 313mil vid on that route, and I find it hard to see where another 64 mil or so could be had. Rando, you elude to knowing where these points come from. Care to share?

Honestly, VTF-INO's score wasn't that great ( i made 300+M back in the day). To my knowledge, a good chunk of the score is the result of the tecnique i describe as "T-Hawk's" in the ST (well, at least 10%, it seems), as it gives room for extra energy/break cancels/overall increase of scoring opportunity. I wouldn't be surprised, also, if they managed to improve some sections here and there: for instance, the 6C record is close to the 6D, because the final form of the 6C boss, if handled properly, can give a *huge* break cancel multiplier.

However, i need to re-read my ST in order to be any helpful, i really don't remember much :? If you have specific questions, it would be a good start on the road to 300M,no?

As for the specific scores, i really don't remember much (the ST, again, gives a good clue on top-notch scores, though), but i remember my maximum on stage 3 to be somewhere around 92M, using the boss trick

twe - My memory of stage scores is getting hazy. Your ST1 Red 30.4mil score is very good!
I play for distance first, then score. Preferring to get the ALL then work backwards on the score.
I stuck to the non-optimal lower scoring Red Route, as I enjoyed it more and never scored over 50mil with the ST3 Green Trick, despite getting the 999 Break most times. For some reason, the difference between a 92mil ST3 Green 999 Break and a 45mil 999 Break was hairline, both in positioning and timing.

When I go back to this game, I'll play 6C and 6B Routes.

Naw, just remarking, since you've got a decent st1R score, you should use it as a starting point for trying for a 6D record ^_-

Thanks. I've upped my score by a few millions, but I'm not motivated to post it just yet. I like to play for distance for a start too, but I just can't seem to beat ST3 boss [GB] (oh boy am I eager to see how ST4 looks:)). First form is easy, but second is really tricky. Any tips, anyone? Guess it's mostly practice...

J-Manic, please don't post credit-feeding scores, albeit i've not stated it in the rules, it's a pretty implicit tradition to post scores based on one credit only. I hope this encourages you to try harder and improve your skills, of course

Hi DEL & Randorama. :)

I haven't been playing Border Down lately, but would like to get back into this and hopefully finish on 6C or 6D sometime. Hopefully I'll blow away my old 142M record and eventually have 200M on the table.

i've been starting to appreciate BD more recently, so far i suck at it bad though, usually most of my score is from stage 1 yellow (about 12-15m), st 1 red is too hard for now, i'm going for 1Y 2G 3G which gives me a 1 life leeway in st2.
i'll post a score when i get at least 20m.
